Continuing with last week's lecture I'd like to do an experiment with you. I tried to show you how hard it is to divide the songs into categories. I did it for 1955-1970 number one songs.

I have printed off Billboard's number 1 songs for 1974. These should be familiar to you and so I'd like you to put the songs into groups.

The six groups:   RnR   EasyL   C/W   RnB   Novelty   Folk

I'd like you to split into groups. I'll give each group a copy of the list and a form to score on.

We will allow 15-20 minutes for discussion and rating.

Each groups results will be put onto the board.

If we are lucky, the results should be similar for each group. If not, then we have demonstrated the difficulty in categorizing some songs.
