News in Brief

   Grandpa Bob
Last time we saw Bob was in 1979 when he came to Auckland to attend a Bob Marley concert. This time he was up to see Santana. And he brought along his father’s photos and slides of Fiji where I had taught with his father. We had a few days of recalling the good ole days, though we seem to have forgotten more than we remember..

   Goodbye James
James Alderson’s life ended tragically. He was a young man who had Asperges and led a limited lifestyle. His family are very close to us and we feel his loss deeply.

Gutted to Grouted
It took six months to finish the en suite. Very difficult to get a tradesman to show up and actually work for more than an hour. That hasn’t deterred us and you will find our kitchen-dining room is currently gutted and ready for painting. We hope to have it completed before 2009, but who knows, eh?

GOD - Each person has his or her own view on this one. The rule is don’t discuss religion or politics, so I won’t do it here. more...
GAIL - My best friend, soul mate and the one who feeds me. And man, can Malleygal cook! She is also a great teacher. She has lived with my bad jokes for nearly 40 years now. Don’t get her started laughing as she goes overboard at times and we have a long wait until she calms down. She had a head tumor zapped in 2003 only to have it removed in 2010, with no side affects. She also survived a head-on car crash in 2008.

GOOFY - My collection began in the 70’s when a student gave me a pair of socks that she had bought in Disneyland. Back when I was working and had money I amassed about 1000 items. Friends and family have contributed greatly to that and one day I hope to set up a Goofy room. My collection ...

GHETTO - Congressman Ghetto was my only dog. My Fiji roommate, Heasley, brought this starving puppy home and somehow she became mine. She had 35 puppies (including Senator Shambles) before I got her spayed.
GRANDPARENTS - Never met my maternal grandmother, who lived in Vienna. But I literally spent my first years with my paternal grandparents on their farm in Minnesota. Later we kids would spend our summers there. And even later I would camp across the road with my Richfield buddies. Then there is Ian White’s mother, Granny, who came to NZ a few times and we visited her in Scotland in 1997.

Mike was in the Peace Corps with me and he eventually settled in Guam where he married and raised a family. I was lucky to spend 3 hours at the airport with him earlier this year on a stopover on his way to meeting in Tonga.

It’s a Man Thing?
Recently, we got news that Rollie S has had some work done on his arteries. Made me think. We know quite a few men who had had heart/artery operations, but not a single woman???
