2001 Waiuku Formula 1
line
Australia   23 Mar   3 laps    Course: Adelaide track
KryptKicker had the pole position and used his tactic cards with wild abandon but just couldn't shake Black Dog who had an amazing 6 no penalties and eventually took the lead near the end of lap 2.  Offsetting that good luck was poor Jazz who was spinning off and being blocked regularly right into last place.  The Bodyguard drove a good steady race and was able to overtake KryptKicker's ailing Ferrari on the last corner for second and then Mango almost did the same.  Fireball missed most of the action and settled for 5th.
Malaysia   11 Apr   6 laps    Course: standard track
The Bodyguard had pole and managed to hang in for a couple laps in what turned out to be a ruthless (she was busy doing something else, eh?) race with many blocks both on spinoff and pitstops.  So the leader at the end of lap was, Fireball, found himself finishing last. Mango had a steady race being 1st or 2nd at the end of each lap.  Blackdog continued his good luck from Australia and took the lead halfways into the race and stayed there to the end.  There were two seperate races - Blackdog, Mango and Kryptkicker way out ahead of the remaining 3 and so close that they all spun off at the same corner.  Kryptkicker attempting to block the other two also spun off thus missing his chance for 1st, because he never went into the pits and had to maintain safety speeds the final lap.
Brazil    20 April    5 laps    Course: reverse standard track
The Bodyguard used a card on the first move to go into the lead and she held onto it, never being headed.  First win since Jan 1999 for the Williams car.  Mango, who held pole position, failed to attempt a block on The BG leaving himself blocked on the second curve.  Nevertheless, after falling way off the lead he managed to finish second coming from the rear on the last two laps.  Hardluck case went to The Kryptkicker who spun off on the first lap and was double blocked, spun off a few more times and had no brakes coming out of a pitstop; so last place was no suprise.  Coming off of two wins Blackdog couldn't handle the Brazilian corners and he spun off four times and was blocked each time.  Fireball finally made it to the dais for the first time this year.
Monaco  20 May  4 laps   Course: standard track
Fireball had pole and kept the lead until halfways through the final lap when the world's luckiest drive, Blackdog, caught and overtook him for another 1st place finishing.  KryptKicker, on the otherhand, had his usual bad luck.  Starting in last place on the grid he spun off at the first corner.  Despite spinning off two more times and putting the wrong tactic card on the stack for the third race this year he still managed a third placing.  The whole turning point for most drivers took place on the top corner where KryptKicker blocked Blackdog and then blocked a spun off Jazz.  If Mango hadn't spun off it would have kept Blackdog from being able to come through and end up blocking all of the other three.
San Marino    10 June    5 laps    Course: Imola
The Bodyguard used her favorite ploy of using tactic cards to go into the lead and just like Brazil she was never headed.  Mango made an amazing comeback after being triple block in the first lap.  He worked his McLaren back into 2nd going into the final lap, but a spin off hurt him again.  Jazz, wanting to be able to say she was in 3rd took a gamble and lost with Mango return the block she had done to him earlier.  The 1-minute violation was used for the very first time, and it was used against the very driver for which it was put in place - Blackdog.  In a sport where split-second decisions are required, he plays it like a game of chess, planning his moves well into the future and then each other driver's possible moves.  The penalty didn't amount to anyting thanks to Mango deciding to not block the stalled Jordan.  Meanwhile KryptKicker held a steady second until the end when he spun-off twice and was blocked each time.
Spain  Aug 19  6 laps   Course: Barcelona
Fireball had the pole position and after the race he said that he had a bad feeling about it.  He tried to build a lead but at the end of the second lap he was in the pits where he was triple blocked.  The Bodyguard had been in second and despite 3 spinoffs held the lead until a 4th spinoff found her being double blocked.  Jazz found herself in 1st place and managed to hold it until the very end when Mango used his superb driving cards to win in a crippled car.  Blackdog made a dash from last place during the last lap to finish 3rd.  KryptKicker had his usual bad luck, being blocked near the start and never caught up.  Fireball was right about the omen and finished dead last.  It was a brutal race; there were 16 spinoffs, including two non-corner ones, plus quite a few blocks at the pits.
Austria   1 Sept    6 laps    Course: Standard
It was discovered that Mango doesn't have a valid driver's licence, so was barred from the race.  KryptKicker won pole position for the race in his homeland but settled back into the rear from which he blocked opponents.  Lady luck was riding with him for a change and he managed to avoid the pits and stayed in second position until he blocked Fireball in the pits and took the lead from then onward.  Jazz and The Bodyguard counted for two-thirds of the spinoffs.  Blackdog complained about the recent paint job (all cars touched up), complained about an earlier race, complained about his back and came in 4th.
Canada   9 Sept   5 laps   Course: Gilles Villeneuve
Last place Jazz won the pole position but ended up being blocked by KryptKicker (who was blocked 2 turns later by Jazz and The Bodyguard) and Mango.  And then a spin off found her double blocked - this time by KryptKicker and then Fireball. So she was back in the rear of the pack, as per normal. While everyone else was in a battle of attrition Blackdog used a slew of supberb driving tactic cards (guess who reshuflled and redealt the cards?) to build a humungous lead.  In fact, the closest (5) we have come to a driver being lapped as the finely tuned Jordan almost overtaking hapless Fireball's Prost that spunoff 5 times.  There was some excitement as 2nd, 3rd and 4th were decided on the last move with the cars being nose to tail.
Europe  15 Sept  6 laps  Course: Circuit de Catalunya
It was The Bodyguard and KryptKicker in 1st and 2nd for the whole race, until Blackdog made his move on the last lap at the Seat corner and got away with it, winning another race.  The first lap was a long one with 5 drivers spinning off with Jazz and Blackdog being triple blocked.  Seat was the most interesting corner when in the 4th lap David spun off there, Mango then spunoff trying to block him.  Blackdog spunoff trying to block them.  Finally, Jazz was able to block the the trio.
Great Britain   2 Oct    4 laps   Course: Silverstone
Blackdog jumped into the lead and held it until he went into the pits, when Mango took over and went on to win.  It was a tight finish for 2nd, 3rd and 4th right up to the last corner where Blackdog used a "superb" to go 80 over a 60 speed limit, which gave him second.  Meanwhile The Bodyguard and Kryptkicker battled for last, blocking each other.  In the end, the red Ferrari came in front by one space.
Germany  4 Nov  5 laps  Course: Hockenheim
Fireball had pole position, took the lead and drove a perfect race to win easily. Jazz had too many gins and but still managed to finish second, though Blackdog did take her right to the very last move.  The BodyGuard had it in for Kryptkicker blocking him every chance she could.  But he managed to pull away in the last lap and in fact just as he made his move for 2nd place, spunoff and settled for 4th.  Mango couldn't control his McLaren spinning off 5 times.
Hungary   18 Nov   6 laps     Course: Hungaroring
A perfect race by KyrptKicker, who had the pole position, used two tactical moves in the first three to gain a large lead that was never threatened, giving Ferrari their second win.  Meanwhile all the other drivers were setting a new high for the number of spinoffs.  Jazz's Jag never even made it to the starting line.  Fireball and The BodyGuard fought it out for second for the first 4 laps, only to let Blackdog overake them with a little over one lap to go.  Mango had the worst luck on the corners, failing them 7 times and with three blocks on his stalled McLaren it was no surprize that he finished last.
Belgium  8 Dec   7 laps    Course: Spa
Fireball had pole and maintained the lead through the whole race until the final lap when the racer of the year, Blackdog, challenged and just won the race.  Every racer except Jazz had been in second place at some stage.  Being the final race and 2nd and 3rd season placings up for grabs there was a lot riding on the relative finishing.  Mango manged to tie KryptKicker for 3rd despite losing a superb driving card.  And that gave us the first All White placing in 10 years of racing.
