The Frankmeister was a programmer with me at The StPaul. He was the cheerleader for the two groups in our unit. He also organized our walleyball games. He was a complex person who was very serious about his job and being a good human being. But he also was a joker,
or wannabe joker. Some of his quips were painfully bad. We also picked on him, but he knew we loved him. My best memory of him was the afternoon at work when he showed us his slides
from a trip to Jugoslavia. It went on for hours and was so boring as we saw this mountain then that mountain, this tree then that tree etc...
But it beat working so no one complained. After he wed Libby, Gail and I became friends and got together to look at our slides of Fiji/NZ and theirs of France/Italy.
But the real challenge was trying to teach them Bridge. Mainly because Frank seemed to always need to be in two or three places at the same time. It was nothing to him to leave work and drive three hours
up north to help a relative, then drive back to the cities to attend a meeting for some cause and then show up to play cards with us.
Frank took up SCUBA diving so that he could rescue people. He also became involved in the politics of his community and if he hadn't died so early in life he would have
done so much more for those he loved, which was everyone. |
