Monty was bought with his brother, Cabernet Sauvignon, in August 1985. Ian White was staying with us and helped us come up with the names. Monty was the dominant dog and lorded over Cabby. He wanted Gail to himself and didn't like me much. One night when we were out they were locked in the kitchen. He managed to work his way through the blue painted barrier turning parts of himself that color in the process. Another time they were int he back of the van with the window open. Gail was driving. He thought he would get to her by jumping out of the window onto the Great South road in Manurewa. Luckily, Gail saw him in the rear view mirror. Cabby wandered. Monte always satyed in the yard. So it was a big shock when he was hit by a vehicle and died. Gail was talking to Bette on the footpath (sidewalk) when he saw a dog across the road and charged out after it.
