Miscellaneous
Christmas I Each Christmas Eve the family would drive around to see the house decorations. As soon as Chris was out the door, I would rush to put his Santa gifts under (or near the tree, if too large). Then when we got home we would "discover" that Santa had been. I think we got away with this until he reached 7 years. I wonder how many other families did (or are currently doing) the same thing? Our family tradition is to open family gifts on the Eve. Then when the kids went to bed and were asleep I would put out Santa's gift for them to find in the morning. Being some what poor, the kids were always disappointed that he didn't give them the extravagant gifts they had asked for.
Christmas II In 1973 we began the tradition of having Christmas Eve with the Sanders. Then in 1974 we began going to the Bensons on Christmas Day. Somewhere along the line Aldies began coming over. When we returned to Minnesota we ended up going to family gatherings which we didn't enjoy. When the Whites move to NZ in 1987 we began the tradition of getting together with them on Boxing day. Once we moved to the Mount it became just us and Ne.
Snickers While we were in Minnesota in the early 1980s I used to eat a Snickers a day. I loved them. Plus for a stretch you could send in 25 wrappers and get $2. I used to find wrappers on the road side when we went out looking of cans. Back then there was only one type of Snickers. Over the years I have tried 11 other types. enlarge
Popsicles This back when they came with two sticks and there were several ways to split it to "share". Hard to rank them by flavour. I probably liked the blue one which was raspberry. But also up there is banana and grape. The others I remember are orange, cherry and root beer. In March 1986 they stopped the dual sticks and went to one. enlarge
Other Iceys There was the Fudgsicle bar and the Dreamsicle (orange and vanilla ice cream) which I really loved. More mundane was the Cherrio. Same thing without the stick was called an Eskimo Pie. A little more elegant the ice cream was bewteen two pieces of soft cookie-type chocolate. And something special was a Drumstick since it costs twice as much as the other items listed. enlarge

Movies I wrote about them back in 2016 in a MalleyGram.
