I didn't go to school and used the time to do many Christmas letters. I sat in on the language class though I couldn't contribute anything (laryngitis). They were doing a round robin story that ended up with a white shark. In the evening Dave Downes
and I made as much rice as we could boil up. The only time I had actually cooked, having wangled out of it twice before.
Hasegawas We brought the rice to the Hasegawas for a fantastic dinner that we ate in a one room glass-walled building that Mr. H had built
in a tree over a creek below a waterfalls. We had to follow a roped path down a steep hill and at the bottom we crossed a pool filled with
giant goldfish. The water provided a beautiful background as we ate our Chicken hekko, cucumber-celery salad and all sorts of weird Japanese dishes kneeling by our six inch high table.
Dessert was home-made coffee ice cream.
Mrs Hasegawa took us home, as the staff had a meeting in Ookala. She drove us around to look at the lights. And there I saw the most beautiful
sight I have ever encountered. Looking down at Waimea all lit up for Christmas with Mr Smart's tallest Christmas tree in the world. |
