   Matereti Sarasau

HEAD BOY 1970.  He was the biggest boy at school (I believe he was 20 years old), built like a gorilla with an equivalent intelligence.  In my introduction to British schooling it became obvious that the only thing that mattered was RUGBY.  The boys on the FIRST 15 are like gods and cannot be mistreated. Matereti was a king pin in the team along with the deputy head boy, Joe, who was also massive. Matereti's main subject was art and he was the only student in the Form 6 class.
Not a natural leader, as he possessed a weak voice and struggled to be heard above the din in the dining hall. When the boys got drunk at ACS dance and had a fight on bus home, he cried, got off the bus and said he quit. So naturally the head master (also the coach of the first 15) spent the next day in Suva tracking him down and talking him into returning to school. Matereti spent most of the time at Mere Matron's house.
