Rosehill Teachers

     Des Hunt

In 1973 Des was acting Head of Maths. We only had one meeting and he told David Smithers and me to do whatever we wanted. He was Head of Science and I taught General Science, so I saw him once in ahwile becaue of that. He was excellent at explaining what I was to do. I had taught it for three years so I was an old hand but still I felt so proud when he told me that the exam question I made up was excellent. At staff meetings he was the natural leader and seemed to know everything about everything. So it was no surprise when he headed off to Fiji to help that country out with its science curriculum. Later he did the same for Scotland. He was forever pushing for new technology in any part of the school. He wrote a Physics textbook that my son used in the 1990's.
In 1993 I saw that Rosehill wanted a part time computer technician. Upon checking into it I found out that he was Head of Computing and that sold it for me. Good and bad came out of it. He was still pushing limits and I had to desparately try to keep up with his demands with my limited time frame. He would go home and the next day come in with a complete series of lessons that I would then have to organize. I asked himwhat he would do if he retired. He said that he wanted to write a mystery novel.
Des eventually "retired" from secondary eductaion and ended up in a small coastal town in primary where I heard he was having the students build computers from scratch!!! Since then he has gone on to ebing an award winning author of children's book that have a mystery with educational themes.
