RETURN VISIT

We know we have been at OSV for a long time when people come to stay a second time.

Russell brought his son James along for some cribbage. And they got me out onto a golf course to caddy for them. My first major walk since the operation.

Ian came again, this time with his inflatable kayaks. After a warm-up paddle on McLaren Lake with Gail we went across the harbour from Pilot Bay to Matakana Island. An hour each way (route).

The Smithers family came for another go at Alhambra and some hiking in McLaren Falls Park.

RENEE - Our daughter. She was a real charmer as a baby. Everyone would comment on her beauty and the many fancy dresses that Grandma Eva sent her. She was a super athlete in her youth. Top goal shooter in her netball league. Represented Auckland Southern Zone in gymnastics. All-Star catcher in softball. Only girl on school soccer team, etc… Did a diploma in art and has had two successful exhibitions of her art works.
RICHFIELD - We moved to this suburb of Minneapolis when I was nine and lived there eight years. It was there that I made my life-long friends from the neighborhood and school. A great place and time to be growing up. There are too many good memories to even begin to list.
ROSEHILL COLLEGE - I taught mathematics at the Papakura school for 7 years in the 70’s and then in the 90’s I was its computer manager for 5 years. That makes it my main employer during my working years. I was in charge of the stationery room, textbooks, basketball, bridge club and the radio station. I also taught a Pop Music course, a radio course and The History of...
ROCK AND ROLL - My number one hobby since 1955 when I first heard Elvis and Haley on the tube radio in our kitchen. My first 45RPM record was Bobby Day’s Rockin’ Robin” and I spun it hundreds of times as I would lip-sync into a mirror. My first album was the 4 Seasons’ “Sherry”. I was a drummer in a staff band in Fiji and also played a little rhythm guitar in Minnesota.
ROTORUA - New Zealand’s main thermal area. At least eight different spots in the area to explore (and smell), including a Buried Village. We first went there in 1973 and have been back a further five times over the years. -- Photos --

When I worked at a Holiday Inn we had many music groups stay. The Rolling Stones spent four days before they were famous. One day I brought a meal up to the room of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Mick took the tray from me and as he set it down it dropped — orange juice over everything. No problem, I’ll get a second order made up. But the cook wouldn’t do it. So I then cooked the hamburgers and fries for them. Their manager was telling them to get a move on to go to the concert when I got back, so they grabbed the food and shot out the door. I never got a tip!!!!!

Renee came up with a couple good ones when she was a tyke.

RAINBRELLA — which makes more sense than Umbrella, eh?

RAINWIPERS — again, much more accurate than window wipers or windscreen wipers.
