Ian came for a couple days and liked it so much that he stayed on a third day. I went for my first walk on the beach. We need to inspect our footwear after doing so because there is still oil splotches under the sand from the Rena stuck upon a reef 20Km out. We also strolled through Tauranga’s Yatton Park with its old, large trees.
Gail joined the OSV art club and we attended its Christmas function. There is only one male out of the 15 members, so Les and I “bonded” over a bottle of Syrah. And I had an interesting chat with the tutor, Rob McGregor, an amazing 72 year old artist and athlete.
Things got lively when the Smithers family arrived for a couple days. Rain curtailed outdoor plans but we made up for it with some games of Alhambra. My arch-rival, James, and I split against each other but we couldn't best Thomas.
Christmas was VERY different for us this year. It was just family, meaning Ne. Not the usual crowds coming through from 24th thru the 26th. Gift opening on the 24th and I was given Dominion Hinterlands which we immediately played.
Then on the 25th we explored McLaren Falls Park for the first time. About 20 minutes drive inland. It is a beautiful spot with many different scenic areas. We did a bush walk and then had a picnic on the lake shore. |
