My mother and I were born in Austria. My father's side came from Bohemia and settled in Minnesota between the towns of Olivia and North Redwood. This area was home to many other families from the same region in Bohemia. When it became incorporated as a parish, in 1879, the name Bechyn was chosen as that was the name of district town they had lived near in Bohemia. My great-grandfather arrived in 1898 and bought farmland adjacent to the community's Church. He built a store/bar on his land.
