Miscellaneous

1. Snakes frightened him because his dying grandmother talked about them.

2. His father wouldn't allow him to read. So he snuck across the road to Grandpa Serbus' farm and read the newspapers stacked in the woodshed.

3. Back in the day (I remember it) there was a flashing red light hung in the middle of the intersection of highways 212 and 51. Drivers on 51 meant to stop. Sure enough one time my dad, with John Knisley, was tooling along on 212 when a farmer pulled out, slow as a turtle, without looking for traffic. Was a near miss - luckily no on coming traffic.

4. While a young man, at a church picnic he was talked into playing baseball. He says that a ball broke a finger as they didn't wear gloves.

5. I recall that he always had a box of Chiclets in his shirt pocket and his pants pocket always had change (from his tips).

6. In 1993 he visited us in New Zealand. Story
