Pejhutazizi Oyate Traditional Wacipi (Spirit of the Eagle) was held at the Upper Sioux Reservation near Granite Falls.
Even though the temperature hit 100°F, it was a most enjoyable afternoon's entertainment to say nothing of good cross-cultural experience, David sat through two hours of it without moving. We sat right behind a drum group (they were using a base drum, not the real thing) and around the ankles of the dancers were bells that he found hypnotizing. I got half an hour worth onto tape and got some great photos. The dress was very colorful. It was not a tourist display but an authentic get together. Ninety per cent of the gathering was Indians. | ||
