Expo |
Expo and we were able to park even closer under the bridge which was amazing as there were 5 times as many people. Queques were long for everything, and it was sunny and HOT. We headed for the peanut stand buying curried, savoury, chili and candied. Munched on those during the 45 min wait to go on the Swiss
Skyride (10 min going around outside then 10 minutes travelling over the artificial ski slope inside. Checked out the Techno Plaza (Japanese) where we saw a fountain show by a robot and girl in Kobe.
Inside the mystery domes you could watch videos. Went through a holographic maze.
Over to Hungary to watch another video. Set out in search of food and after a long walk ended up at the Boardwalk. From there it was the French pavillion that had a dazzle of lights on the floor and models of French things (Eiffel Tower being built out of Legos). Fun park where we all went on the Supernova "dark" rollercoaster (inside a building) - no big deal. Ne and I went on the hanging rollercoaster that was excellent. Ne went on the Titan by herself while David hit the video arcade. Put on our warm clothes and went to the US pavillion where the kids tested their pitching - David 78mph, Ne 49mph (video). Looked into the various South Pacific huts. At Fiji I asked if anyone was from ACS. Turned out that the an elderly woman, Nani Vulacava, has a niece who is Susi's namesake and she knew the Whites and Tui's families. Got her to speak to them via my vidcam. We chatted awhile - she was over for a two week stint and very lonesome. At the museum bure there was a former pupil of Ian's, Una Waqainabete, so we had another gossip/video session. Finally, made it to the floating River Stage and settled onto the artificial turf. Obnoxious compaire, OZ's version of Pam Ayers and James Blundell, country rock singer (good). Spectacular laser/fireworks/music finale doing the Wizard of OZ story. (video). Got out at midnight. |
