Barossa Valley and St Kilda |
Very cold, windy morning. Room service breakfast very expensive. First stop Chateau Dorrien. Series of vats shaped into castle turrets and you can get onto them and get an excellent view of the valley.
The indoor vats had beautiful paintings on them (video). Tasted a dry, woody, nutty '78 Tawny Port, several meads (warmed and perfect for a cold day) and bought a couple of the spicy ones. Next stop was Elderton where a lovely young lady let us sample. '87 Beaujolais (dry VG), '84 Cab-Merlot (V dry),
'84 Hermitage (dry with berry) and '85 Hermitage (FB dry). Bought six bottles of Hermitage. Took scenic highway out, but unfortunately low clouds prevented us from seeing the views (video).
Long drive to St Kilda Lions' Adventure Park where we met Heasleys, their friend Peter and a few boys who were celebrating Mana's birthday. Giant slides, flying foxes, rides a castle and a ship (video). The adults settled to a couple of '84 cab-savs (fruity Shermarine and an excellent Broken Wood) while the boys played (video). Watched a real good artsy complex Eureka then Wimbelton tennis. |
