| 1973 | Rosehill Queen Carnival at Old Central school. Found EJ unloading a doctor's desk for the auction. I said that I would buy it for $15 and he could leave it on the trailer, and we brought straight to the flat. Rain let up but the parade was cancelled.I grabbed Steven Hancock and we cooked sausages from 1:30PM - 4PM. Helped Barry return stuff to school and then he stopped in for a beer. |

| 1974 | Atmores brought me a Teac A-1230 tape deck [ed. - tossed it in 2010] from Fiji. Had a beer and played snooker. Breezes and Mitchell's joined us for a QVS reunion. |  Atmores |
| 1977 | Talked Ku (obit) into playing on the staff team. He came to practice and I had him taking shots. |  |
| 1978 | Nose still stuffed but they took the bolster (big wad that absorbed the blood that my nose discharged) off. Dr Mills came at 8:30AM and said I could go home. Gail arrived at 10AM. We got lost and ended up in Hillsborough. Gurgling nose kept me awake until 2AM. | |
| 1991 | Kawakawa Bay with Aldies. I floated for a while. Supper on beach followed by dinosaur birthday cake. Gave David the kaleidoscope, Donald Duck glass, aligator soup and sparklers. Card for Gail. |  |
| 2008 | Gail and I drove to the Presbyterian Church in Drury for James' funeral. Big crowd filled the main area, the social room at the back and the hallway. Gail was seated with the family. I had a special chair outside (photo). When Trish made her talk she began it by yelling out: "John Malecek can you hear me?" So I yelled back: "Yes". She must have asked me again a little later because the people near me were whispering: "Say 'yes'!" I couldn't hear any of the other speakers. Lee did brilliantly "Theme from the Titanic" on the piano. Long chats with Graeme P, the Johnstons and Peter M. Trish's with family, the Howells and a couple others. Three Maori men cleansed the house, garage and James' car. We followed behind as blessed water was sprinkled. Gave Evan Williams (daughter lives in Montana) a ride to a friend's place in Manurewa. | |
| 2010 | W - Went to Botany with Ne and had lunch at Cock and Bull. I had cajun calamari salad. Then we saw Its Complicated with 4 other old ladies. | |
| 2011 | Th - email from an Otto in Holland asking about Needham's Stinger. Everywhere I go a juvenile fantail follows me. When I am sitting weeding it sits next to me (inches away) chirping away. | |
| 2015 | T - Up at 8:30AM to have patch removed and left eye checked by Dr Saunders. It now sees distance clearly but can't read so I rested in bed while I listened to the Twins. |  |
| 2017 | F - Made it to Smithers new place in Howick at 2:50PM going via the back roads avoiding the motorway. Gave them them the Heart to Heart painting for $200. Thomas gave me a tour of the smaller house and yard which is extremely neat and tidy - spotless. More traffic at 4PM and it took me 65 minutes to get to Russell's. Peter must have around 10 seats as so many of his employees showed up. He offered me a chance to bring someone else along. Big boys looked like small boys compared to Melbourne. First half was played in a heavy downpour and was close 10 - 12 before they lost 10 - 26. Jordis Unga sang at half-time to the small crowd of 9,000. Zipped passed a cop car doing 94 in an 80 zone in the Kaimais and he didn't come after me. | |
