1975 | 9°F when Joyce drove us to the airport. Takeoff was delayed because of frozen water pipes, and so there was no coffee on the flight with breakfast. Arrived at Cleveland at 11:45AM. About a mile to walk to pick up luggage. Thomases brought us to their home in Berea (quaint college town). After a bowl of soup they brought us to the Emerald Necklace. We followed the Rocky River stopping at the Trailside Interpretive Center where we met Dr Peterjohn, a close friend who was conducting an ecology class. Continued to Lake Erie. In the evening we looked at their slides of Costa Rica, India and our NZ ones. Played bridge until midnight. Had a Vernor's ginger ale that tasted like cream soda. |

1976 | Gail had a successful Tupperware party, 10 women came and she is getting $12 worth for free. I couldn't convince Te that he was not a lady and didn't belong in the lounge. So he threw a tantrum, the first I ever seen from him.
1979 | Sa - Breeze's at 3PM for a barbecue and met Simon's sister, Benny, hubbie Tom and kids Andrew and daughter.
1982 | Th - Towns for Thanksgiving meal with two cheap wines that Joyce picked up for $1 each (harsh '76 Paducci Chablis and a bad Meirs La Brusca Rubio). Chris', who is now living in MaryAnn's apartment - two cats, Bob and Bill. Mom showed up. We visited over a good '80 B&G Beaujoulais.
1989 | Bought a 12'x9' canvas tent at Doyles. Packet of newspapers and brochures from Prescott, AZ from Mom. Looks like a great place - makes us want to go there.
1990 | Joyce called from Jan's to tell us that Dick has hundreds of cancer lumps and has less than two months to live. So we began making plans to get Gail there.
1995 | Sa - Went to Manukau Tech Art display with Whites. Some impressive Graphic Design works. Susi split to go to the market and it took a while to find her again. Autobahn at 7PM with Ian and Susi. Had a good Terrell's '93 Shiraz.
2010 | Th - Short drive to Caloundra and the Oasis Resort. Room far from the pool, which was cold and had construction going on around it so we gave it a miss. Went for a walk, only I got mixed up and we went two long blocks parallel to the beach with no way through, so we had to go back. Just as we got to the Esplanade on Golden Beach it began to rain heavy and we hunkered down under trees until it let up. Decided to go the other direction to King's Beach along a boardwalk. Stopped at Bulcock Beach to watch para-sailers. On way back we had supper at Coffee Club. Gail had an Affogato. Table near us had three generations of Americans. When I heard one say: "Let's have a photo of us at our Thanksgiving meal" I volunteered to take it so all would be in it. Grandmother was eating her grandson's leftover pancakes and said to me: "It ain't turkey but it will have to do". |

2021 | Th - Day 98 of Delta lockdown (5182 cases). 80 minute walk along beach and to Bayfair to post Newsy's Christmas card. Found $1 ($11.20). Ran across this tree at Arataki: photo. A Cape Gooseberry plant popped up in the front of the house. I left it and now we have the best one ever - they tend to succumb to disease before fruit can be harvested.
2023 | Sa - Began a Terraforming Mars game and pause after two hours for Gail, who really struggles these days.
