Cyclone Bebe struck Fiji - winds have changed direction and picked up. Bob kept coming over to listen to weather reports (hear one). Yasawas hit about noon, Lautoka at 3PM. Murph has put his car into our garage (as Daya wanted to also do). Which put a crimp in Whites' plan to hang their wash in it so they used our housegirl's bure.
In our yard 6 banana trees went down, as is a vesei and the bbq vakatunaloa is gone. Power went out at 5PM, so we played cribbage by candlelight,
6PM - Bebe was 30 miles east of Nadi. We played bridge at Whites until 1:30AM. Their windows kept being torn from the latches and we had to nail 3 of them shut.
Jeneti was over with her daughter, Susi, and Toma was playing chess with Ian when we arrived. At 11PM the eye reported to be in middle of island heading southwest of Suva. When we got home we found a few windows flapping but no serious damage. Difficult to sleep with the raging noise. |

Sa - Whites. Ian (with Simon's help) bought a red Bedford van for $2800. Was being used as a chicken coop, so many jokes about his family not wanting to get into it.
So I brought a vacuum over for him to use on it. [ed. - no heater and you needed an umbrella inside because of the leaks]. Bridge with and Susi and I winning. Showed them how to pop corn. |
1992 |
Sa - Whites: Ian and I walked to Hamilton dairy and took the scenic route back. Doug W and I used my electric clippers to chop back their privet hedge. Bridge until midnight. |
1993 |
Spent morning at the confidence course: me and Matt. Ian, Matthew and I did the 3C trail in about 2 hours. Left the camp and got to a crowded Miranda Hot Pools around 2PM.
I went in twice. We had supper there. Got back to Papakura around 6PM and played a couple rubbers of bridge. |

An International day. email from Heddy in Scotland, postcard from Inez (Mexican) in Colorado, letter from Edith (Bolivian), phone call from Titania (Singapore), a visit from Golf, Ong's brother, (Thailand) and Stephanie (France) cooked us supper. Penny brought Golf over. He had gifts from
Ong for us - a couple china bell figurines and a couple wooden "good luck" birds. He is over for a couple months during his uni break and attending Rosehill. Penny looking for a job as Malcolm can't find a truck mechanic - his latest import is from Russia and the fellow only worked on tanks. |
