Su - Mass with Barb Mutz and her teacher, Chris Brown. On the way along back roads we went past a sugar mill. After Mass he gave us a tour down to the lighthouse, and this
time it really was back roads, including passing an unofficial junk yard that ruined the surrounding beauty. From the point we could see a bay and many caves and for the first time I was impressed with the ocean. He brought us to Pololu Valley and we only viewed it from
the top. It was about 3000' down to a black sand beach. This is the valley where King Kamehameha entrenched his power. But now it is only inhabited by wild pigs. Chris pointed out a zig-zag pattern along the valley walls as a donkey trail
and one could ride from this valley all the way down the 12 other valleys to Waipio Valley. At the point is a rock that King K had to carry up from the valley to claim his kingship. But the highlight was the Haunted House.
As a climax he drove us past a graveyard where a headless dog is supposed to haunt. |
