Off the plane in Nadi at 8AM and into a wall of heat that was unbearably hot. Whipped right through customs. While we waited for a connecting flight Ramon introduced me to his uncle and cousins;
so I had a chance to try out my Hindi.
We flew across Viti Levu in a DC3 prop plane in relays as the plane couldn't hold all of us. Flew low and right in the clouds for the most part. The stewardess handed out candy. My ears hurt [ed. - and plugged for three days]. Landed at Nausori and piled onto a bus that had
no windows. The Indian driver was all mixed up and we surely didn't know where we were going. But someone must've because we convinced him to drive back to the place where we saw a sign saying NTC (Nasinu Training College). There we unloaded our bags into the dorms which are long
dormitories with beds and cupboards. David Blado tagged along with me and we set up next to each other. There were about 100 beds for the 40 single males.
We were put back onto the bus and taken to Chuck Irby's house for a welcome party. Local staff and quite a few PCV's there to greet us and check out the new guys and gals. |
