No JUMPING!

Gail’s bones have begun to mend, so she now sports a weight-bearing cast and is allowed to move small distances with a crutch. But she still pretty much lives in the wheelchair inside the house.

JUNK the JUNKER

Our old Charade was 17 years old with 198,000km on it and it needed a few costly repairs done before August in order to pass the Warrant of Fitness exam. So I decided to junk it as a trade-in. The dealer gave us $400 for it. And with that incentive, and the insurance money, we bought a 2006 Yaris, which is larger than the 2004 Echo, but basically the same model. About the only thing I don’t like about it is that it is “white”. But it is so good to have a safe and reliable vehicle again.

JOBS - Feels like I have been retired forever. But before then I did manage to have a variety of jobs. My first being a hot dog vendor at a sports stadium. Then I moved indoors, during my university years, being a bellhop, a desk clerk and a night auditor at a Holiday Inn. Moved onto Honeywell where I was a records clerk until I left the States in 1970. Without planning it I became a math teacher - in Fiji and New Zealand.
Took a year off from that job and while we lived in a small rural town in Minnesota I was a house painter doing a couple houses the 5 months we were there. In 1980 we moved back to the States and I ended up as a main frame computer programmer. Returning to New Zealand in 1985 I was put in charge of bringing personal computers in to New Zealand Steel and did so until 1991 when my health brought about my first “retirement”. A couple years later I was back at the same school where I had taught in the ’70s; this time as the computer technician. I did that for 5 years and “retired” a second time. I continued teaching adult computer classes for a few more years and that led to a core base of clientele which gets me out the door a couple times a week.
JOINING - Kincy joined the Army, Angi joined the Marines, Steve N joined the Navy. Steven H joined the Air Force. So, naturally, I joined the Peace Corps.
JOHNSON - First there was my classmate, Gary Johnson, and his beautiful sister, Linda. My boss at Holiday Inn was Greg Johnson. Then at Honeywell I had two supervisors: Les, and then, Lloyd Johnson. My first roommate was Darrell Johnson (also with a beautiful sister). I married into a Johnson family, as Gail’s father was one. Mary and David Johnson sold our house in Cottage Grove. I taught three Johnsons at Rosehill.
JUMP - Two of my most favorite songs happen to be called “Jump”. I probably like Van Halen’s (hear it) just a tad more than the Pointer Sisters’.
“Jumpin Jack Flash” - Jan and Dean - “Johnny Get Angry” - Tommy James - “Johnny Angel”
Joan Jett - Jones (Papakura branch)

I made two trips to the airport. Gail’s best friend, Elaine, decided to retire in her homeland, Canada, to be nearer to friends and family. She spent her last week with us and there were no tears when she left. We are very happy for her and look forward to visiting her on Vancouver Island.
More routinely, Stephanie has made her annual trip to France, to escape our winters. This time she will be meeting her newest nephew, Louie IV.

JUMP
on the
Bandwagon

Why does one jump onto one and when is the best time to do it? Has anyone ever actually seen a “band wagon”?
