ALASKA
Gail met up with Ann Emery in Fairbanks and from there paddle-boated down the Chena and Tanna rivers. They saw a bush pilot take off on the river, viewed a sled dogs kennels, went through an Indian village, saw salmon being filleted in a Native fish camp. And that was just the first day!

Over the next four days they worked their way to Seward where they boarded the Radiance of the Seas. Then it was a week of day trips down the coast.. Finished it off with a couple days in Vancouver.

After about 4 years of thinking and planning about it we actually did it. We sold Malley Manor in August and after 13 years we are leaving Waiuku. The economic crash of 2007 put an end to our dream of moving to Australia. We checked out two sunny areas of New Zealand. While Napier has a drier climate, which would be good for my health, we deemed it too far away from Auckland. So we settled on a beach town about 3 hours drive away.
Mount Maunganui is a peninsular suburb of Tauranga which is a major port in the Bay of Plenty. During the summer months it is inundated with surfers and young ones who party hard making it a lively place. We hope that for the remainder the year it will be a peaceful spot where we can walk along the beach (just a few blocks away) by ourselves.
I would have liked to have bought a smaller property but Gail wanted to be in a “village” where she hopes to have many activities to join and keep her active. We also get the benefit of a heated pool and spa (hot tub) without me having to take care of it. If I only had a nickel for every leaf I removed from our pool....
At time of writing we are in midst of packing and will shift on 16th October. So for now all I can do is tell what we have “leased”. A two bedroom place with a sunroom and an office at back of garage on a corner plot—furthest removed from entrance, so it should be very quiet.
PROSTATE II

Had the sucker removed on 22 August. Four nights at hospital and then about a week of resting at home. I need to take it easy which is hard to do as we are packing and then unpacking. In mid-October we will assess whether the cancer has spread — what they removed was deemed to be in “aggressive” mode, so fingers crossed.

Slippery When Wet

Why must outdoor street scenes in movies always have wet roads even if its not raining? When did this begin?
