PRESCOTT | |
Gail’s folks retired to Prescott, Arizona in the late 80’s. Back then it was rated as the best place in the States to retire. So there were lots of new housing and even more old people. I was there four times and a couple times for months. I absolutely loved the place. Dry and hot (but not too hot). It is located in the mountains, so I was climbing almost everyday. Knocked off Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain. It was filled with retired people and had a slow pace to it. But like everywhere else it has grown to be very large with associated problems. But if we could afford it, I would love to live there. At the pump: |

PEACE CORPS - I applied to Peace Corps to help out in South America. No openings, but they said I could go to Fiji. So I got out a map and found it was in the South Pacific—it was a no brainer. And to top it off I spent 3 months training in Hawaii. I was a math teacher for three years at a boys boarding school. When I left Fiji I moved to...
PAPAKURA - Back in 1973 it was a country town at the end of the Southern Motorway out of Auckland. We stayed there (at three properties) for 25 years. It grew in size and once the kids had finished schooling we moved to the country but continue to go back there about once a week. In 2017 it has become a row of $2 Shops and lost its heart.
PROGRAMMING - When I was at university I was taught FORTRAN and Assembler. In the 80’s, when I was a mainframe programmer, I used COBOL, SPF, S2K, JCL and a few other minor languages. I used to code in BASIC and dBase on PCs. Nowadays I use HTML, XML, JAVA script and CSS to do web pages.
PITTSBURGH - Been there three times (1975, 1980 and 1997) to visit Gail’s uncle Leland and family. Did the Duquesne Incline which we took up and from the there we could see the three rivers, Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio and the “Golden Triangle”. At "The Point" the kids got soaked from the spray of a gigantic fountain when we heard a mighty boom. A historic society was re-enacting a French and Indians War battle. (photos)
PERTH - Gail and I went to this city on the west coast of Australia for our 25th anniversary. It was winter and cold and we found the city to be rather boring and sterile (report). We got out to the countryside and enjoyed that aspect. We need to go back and give it another chance.

PROSTATE PROBLEMS
For years I have had male relatives and friends getting prostate cancer and now it is my turn to deal with it. Half of my prostate was found to be cancerous in July. The rest of my body is clear. I will have it removed and hopefully that will take care of everything and things can return to normal.

Women have had Tupperware Parties for yonks. What about men—don’t they deserve their own Parties? How about a Black & Decker Party for DIY men or a Lure Party for fishermen? Tie Party? Or my favorite a Tupperware for Men (supersized plastic containers)? |
