1965 | Two Japanese fellows, Mitsuyasu Yanagisawa and Satoru Yamagami stayed at the Inn while being trained at Control Data. Satoru left and Mitsu was left on his own. We became friends and one night I took him bowling. Unfortunately, my car was having trouble and we ended up in a garage in the cold while a kid put new brushes into the generator. |

1969 | Peace Corps Staging in San Jose CA. Details in Peace Corps Journal.
1970 | Mitchell's for some beer and cake while hearing about their trip through the States and Canada to Scotland. Extreme heat and noisy dogs kept me awake most of the night, again.
1983 | Sa - Bought stuff at Walgreen's and when the clerk forgot to give me a receipt, I took them up on "$2 if no receipt" offer. Manager got very upset, but gave me the money.
1991 | I KNOCKED THE BUGGER OFF. Thumb Butte in Prescott, Arizona. Started off on the lower level nature trail and the pines hurt my head. But I was soon above them and on the trail to the Groom Creek Vista where I got a photo of Prescott. From there I was on my own (no trail) to climb to the absolute top of the butte. First attempt I made about half way but it became too vertical for me. So retreated and worked my way around to the other side and got to about 2/3rds of the way when my legs and arms became wobbly. Since it was straight down I found a crevice to sit in and eat my snack and apple view. When I felt strong enough I was going to go back down, but I noticed that if I were to force my way through a scrub tree in the crevice there was a way to the top. I just sat on the peak for half an hour view - what a feeling. Easily better than any of the mountain climbs I have done. Letter to Gail: page 1 - page 2. Dad called to tell me that he can get tickets to World Series, and Chris would go with me. I can't go because my mother is coming to Arizona. | ex Cliff Rose ex Groome Creek Vista ex trail near top |
