Gail always wanted to have a Bed and Breakfast. We almost bought one in Hawaii in 1997. Well, her wish has come true. Easy really. All we had to do was move to one of New Zealand’s favourite resort spots. We are minutes away from a beach. Malleybu itself is ideally located being equidistant from The Mount (walk around or up it), Papamoa with its isolated beaches and Tauranga (port side night life action). For hikers, bikers and kayakers we are 20 minutes from McLaren Falls Park.
Fiji friends, the Breezes, came for an afternoon of catching up on our families. Met their friends Pete and Audrey. That was late August.
Early September found my best friend, Ian, here for three days eager to play the latest expansion of Dominion, Dark Ages, and Dogfight. He joined us for petanque and it turned out that fellow petanquer, Anna, had been to his home island of Arran.
School term holidays found the Smithers family back for a third time. Which meant playing Alhambra with the boys. Went to Te Puna quarry in search of a waterfall. No signage to the trail though I knew where it was. It appeared that it is no longer maintained and what few signs which existed where rotting away with no words on them. So we ended up doing a loop before turning upwards. We never did see that waterfall.
No sooner did they depart than Kathy and Mike arrived. I was happy to just sit and chat the next three days. But we did get out to walk around the Mount followed by a coffee at an outdoor café which is our new tradition with them
We have bookings in November for two sets of visitors and a couple more guests are expected in early December. |
