| USUAL SUSPECTS… and some UNLIKELY ones |

 Russell came for his 4th visit to Malleybu. The usual 3-handed skunking at cribbage and inevitable game of Alhambra. This time we also climbed up to the top of the local landmark.
The “Eastie Sisters” showed up with their own food and Carcassonne to play.  Had a go at petanque and did alright. They settled for a walk around the Mount. We taught them Upwords, Alhambra and since they insisted, Dominion. When I got up the next morning I found them at the table playing as if their life depended on it. We sure had a fun packed 48 hours.
 After a year in the South Island Trish made it back to Papakura, but had trouble getting to Malleybu with an unreliable car. So she hopped onto a Naked Bus and arrived on her birthday. In need of more rest than recreation we only drove to the Mount for look at cruise ships and tried to remember how to play Rummikub.
Rumor has it that Ian will show up in January, back from India and Singapore adventures, in need of a Dominion fix.

 UNIVERSITY -
I spent 5 years at the Institute of Technology in the University of Minnesota, home of the Golden Gophers. Had a couple scholarships to study Math with a little Physics thrown in for a dual degree. I only withdrew from one class. Statistics, which was taught by a Pakistani. I couldn’t understand a word he said. Had to wait a year to take it a second time and I just passed. Gail also attended U of M at Moorhead doing Education. David matriculated at Auckland University (Computer Studies). | |
 UNCLES - Only one on my mother’s side, Peter, who probably died in WWII. My father had two brothers. Bernie was the family clown and, of course, much fun. He died pretty much alone - a sad clown.
 Uncle Jerry is still active at 80 and has been a fixture in Morgan, Minnesota. Farmer turned gas station owner then oil deliverer and finally school bus driver. And I am an uncle to Chris and Celina. | |
 UNCLE SAM WANTS YOU - Before computers I collected pictures along this theme. They are now scanned together with many stills from videos. Almost 1000. Too many for one webpage so I’ll be splitting them into two with one just for singers, who do like to point.

 US MARINES - My sister joined in the sixties but never made it to Nam. Ended up as a secretary on Parris Island in South Carolina. | |
| US CITIZEN - I was born in Austria and didn’t become a Yank until I was 12 years old when I became naturalized, my father being a citizen. My mother never became one and lived with the famous “green card” for 50 years. David and Ne became US citizens automatically at birth. We are also Kiwis with dual citizenship. | |
 UTAH - A spectacularly beautiful state with different landscapes than anywhere else. We first travelled through it in 1997 camping and hiking in National Parks. Then in 2002 we made a second visit this time using a B&B near Moab as our base | |
