1973	Had to borrow 20 cents to get into the Papakura Community Center. Watched a few games and played on Rosehill team (no school competition - so boys played in an adult league). Lost 21-12. I made a layup and an outside shot before I pooped out (tripped over my own feet - first time I wore gym shoes in years). Gail came to watch. Last game ended in a fight!
1975	At lunch I sat with Basil and he said that he hadn't heard the name "John" [ed. I guess the way I say my name it doesn't come out as "John" to Kiwis].
1976	David (age 2) invited to Fiona's (age 8) birthday party. Gail stayed there. Dave brought me to the Papakura Club (women not allowed). Jokers sitting at table with jugs of beer, smoking, talking sports and horse racing. We chatted with them until a snooker table was free. Challenged Alan and Terry for a jug of beer which means: darts, snooker and indoor bowls. Dave wants me to coach a basketball team from the club, in exchange for membership. Not interested. Back to his place at 4PM for cucumbers and bolagna.
1982	Su - Gail bought a poodle-spitz pup ($25). I offered "Pitz", "Minnie" and "Frito"; Ne suggested "Tootsie". Decided on David's choice: "Sugar". Called Dick to wish him a happy birthday and say we can't make it since Ne has a fever. Hoffsis called from Florida to tell me that it is warm there.
2022	M - Getting about ten times more ground cherries this year than all previous years together.
2023	T - Dr Rickards who organized ACC X-ray of my elbow (thinks it might be golfer's elbow) and told to never take Ibufren. Bayfair to get meds groceries and see a girl lift a candybar and eat it. On way to gym (10 laps) Kay Green told me that she had caught Covid today.
