| High = 34°F. English we had impromptu speeches: Benilde, peanut butter and Laverne Gagne's vitamins.
| School - 2 movies in Chemistry. I, as class president, attended student council meeting.
| Hawaii; sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteer: Details in Peace Corps Journal.
| Watched the Bucks stop LA win streak at 33. Gail and I visited Inez and then drove to LeCenter where Gail was teaching and renting at the Burgess'. Met Sammy Davis (see photo). I called Jeanie to make arrangements. I slept at the Burgess' - Gail is in their converted garage.
| Took standby to Suva. Fish n chips in the park, then picked up our marriage certificate at Govt Bldgs. Breezed through our medical and x-rays [ed - Still remember doing the X-Ray; giagantic machine that filled a room]. Bussed to Korovou and then took a cab the remainder.
| Christchurch: Lunch at "Coachman Inn" on Glouster, upstairs, olde English style. Murphy was dazzled by our bra-less waitress. Tried an "American" shake that had nutmeg!? Checked out a stamp store. | The Square |
| Mission Bay with Breezes for a picnic and swim. Went through the tiny Melanesian Missionary Church (built in 1859) filled with Solomon artifacts. Breezes stayed for tea when we got home. | Fran |
| F - Put in a trial microfiche and everyone is excited about it. Went to Marco Polo's (near Wisc border on I94) after work with training class members (Curt, Kathy V, Sharon P, Dave M, Rick and Paul), Dave Weible and a few from the new class (Mary Doyle, Terry Grom, Tim Gage and Wong Pham). Had a couple gin and tonics at $1.25. Rick once again full of interesting stories: while working at Cornelius (a plastic firm) he had to deal with bikies, burglars and drugs.
| Sa - -53°F windchill when I got up and -72°F windchill at 10PM. Weather/News. So cold the metal on the garage door opener has contracted and won't go up or down. Gail out into it to wrap our exposed natural gas pipes. And people wonder why we decided to leave Minnesota. North Stars tied for 14th time and management upset, even though they are in first place.
| Su - High = 38°F which softened the ice on the driveway enough so I could remove it. Watched Vikings win playoff game against Falcons 30 - 24.
| W - We had a meeting to meet our new manager, Wayne Hoeschen. He mumbled something, then we had to introduce ourselves and say what we work on. When I said who I was, he said: "So you're the great John Malecek I've heard so much about". So I stood up and took a half-bow. | Wayne |
| K Valley with Sanders. Did the Murray's Walk - 500m on raised planks with 13 stations. Then Boom's Historical Walk (see above link) that follows the stream and has a couple booms can be seen. Everyone went for a swim under the swing bridge. Most people cleared out so we moved a picnic table over and a grill for the firepit he made.
| Was getting a lot done when Kaz's mouse problem exploded. He needs one and I hadn't ordered him one. [ed - truly unbelievable in 2005 when you can can go into a grocery store and buy one]. Several calls to Centron to get them tracking one down (had to order one from Australia).
| First box from Arizona arived with Goofy game so I put it on the computer and tried it. Whites came to get Tracy but left her after a short visit. Called Doug - he has bought an IBM PS/1 and is very confused.
| Brought down a weed tree and hauled the whole thing to Aldies. Hole for window cut into Doug's den - dust everywhere. Big kafuffle over James taking orders for takeaways. Doug paid David $25 to "register" the menu system David had created for him.
| Whites over for bridge on the lawn and a barbecue. Looked at slides and videos of Fiji.
| Dale and Roy over for an evening outdoors finding out all about them over an excellent '94 Lindemans chardonnay (Roy went to Kings, was a 747 pilot, played basketball for Auckland Colts, was a NZ rep in Yachting).
| Simon, Fran, Julie, Ben and Simon's sister, Judy, came for a visit and swimming.
| David and Ne took Chris fishing at the reserve bridge. I pruned weed trees, blackberry vines and dredged the pump pond. David and I took Chris surfing. Chris cooked supper for himself and me on the open fire - but he barely touched his and was off. Chris second carvan, me van, Steph main caravan and David garage.
| Ne back from 3 days at K Valley with Jackie and Bonnie - they had a good time despite the drizzly weather getting in a lot of walks. We gave Elaine the "I'm out of my mind, back in 15 minutes" tee-shirt when she picked up Gail to do shopping - I doubt that she ever wore it.
| Visited Ian (pointing out his garage bargeboards are in sad shape). Evening of bridge - Malleys being whomped twice. The Hardy's Shiraz Mataro was rough. Drove them home and left the hand brake on, so rear wheels were smoking. Gail finished the Goofy quilt.
| Su - Smithers, where we admired the new deck and had a meal out on it. Then it was indoors to play Alhambra with James beating me by just one. Laps.
| M - Russell and James arrived around 3PM. Recieved my Warriors membership items: lanyard, keychain, tie tack. Drinks and then a tour of yard before cribbage with James being skunked. After supper with a fiesty Rosemount '09 Grenache Shiaz it was time for James to be skunked again, this time with Gail doing the honors. And we gave him his first taste of Alhambra - he caught on quick.
| W - Kevin removed 5 skin tags around my eyes. When he cut the second one I said: "I feel like a new man". He said: "That's a load off the lid". We were playing Dominion when Heasley and Analyn appeared at our door. A Laura had let them in after they couldn't get through to us on the gate phone. Just a short visit and off they went.
| W - Colleen's for drinks with Bruce who was looking for a rental online. We went to Dixie Browns for a meal served to us by the lovely Christina from Brasil. Colleen and I shared an excellent Zepher 2016 Gerwurtz and had affogatos for dessert. Colleen's story of getting from international to domestic brought on ribbing about her duty free vodka purchase.
| Su - Day 142 of Delta/Omicrom lockdown (1087 cases). Gym (after a 3 week break).
