Great day (18°C). Walked to wharf through back streets up to St. Mary's Cathedral then Botanical Gardens.
Big trees - gardens over 100 years old. Opera House. Took a Cook's Tour Explorer to Watson's Bay (video) and got off at Taronga Zoo. Up from the pier via a skylift (video). Beautiful and large place and it was crowded (school holidays and pandas on display). Concentrated on birds (video) and
Australian animals (video). Saw a platypus at long last [ed. - I did a painting of one when I was 11] (video). Skipped the pandas - long line. Liked the topiary (video).
Probably saw 1/5th of the place in the three hours.
Ferried back to city and a long walk up George Street until we came to Queen Victoria Building that Bensons told us we must see. Being Sunday most places closed and we were almost back to the hotel when we finally found a restuarant, Aristotle's. Owner reminded me of Anil with his loud, brisk English ordering everyone around. Meal was served with flair and style rarely seen. Had curried prawns that were very different from Indian style. Tried a baklava for dessert - a strudel type pastry with a pistachio nut filling; very tasty. Back at the hotel Ne and I went to the roof and discovered that the swimming pool was not heated. |
