| Richfield and noticed the streets are now wider with curbing in place and beautiful trees on the boulevards. Visited Newstroms until midnight. Gene gave us a sample of his cherry and rhubarb wines. Looked at Steve's wedding photos.
| Te woke up at 2:45AM and Gail told me it was 7:15AM, so I'd get up. Morris and I picked up Benson's trailer and then got the headboard with drawers. Returned the trailer and then brought Vicki and Bronwyn over for fish 'n chips. Watched That's My Mama.
| Brought Te and his new trike over to Michewski's and while he and Kelly rode up and down the driveway I visited. Watched All Blacks beat Lions 16 - 12 with Doug.
| Su - Aldersons, Sal and Chen over to order stuff from Sears catalog. We raced cars.
| Th - Tim gave me a ride to work (called him at 7:10AM and said: "If you don't see me at work today tell John that you forgot to pick me up"). He beat me at cribbage. Gail brought the car to her father's station where Jim put in a new u-joint.
| Sa - Mt Rushmore. Lots of friendly chipmunks. Went through the studio with photos of it being created. Drove past Crazy Horse memorial to Keystone which we found to be a lovely town and tried buffalo burgers and barbequed buffalo - tough and little flavor. Long drive through Custer State park to Norbeck Visitor Center only to find out that the French Creek sites were reserved (against the rules!). So we settled for a hike a rugged trail along the creek. Spotted eagle/hawk nests in a very high cliff face. Stopped and tried to pop corn on the Sterno. Climbed to top of a hill and came across a green snake. Drove south and into a herd of buffalo and calves. Also saw deer, antelope, rabbit and prairie dogs. Drove through Wind Cave National Park in the dark but still saw more animals. Hit Hot Springs as dark clouds rolled in so we decided to stay in at Wayside Motel ($26.25). Lovely to be in air conditioned room, have a hot shower and sleep on a bed. (More photos) |

| Bought an optical fibre light display at Mad Max in Choice Markets to give to Ian (video). First visit to their rental at 91 Kitchner (video). After a cup from Ian's new Mr Coffee (video) we brought over a couple van loads of stuff from Tawa house. Very difficult getting in and out of the new driveway (video). Party time for Ian and Tracy (video). Video of backyard. Couple rubbers of bridge with too much wine (including an excllent Cooks '86 Semillon Sauv). | Books!! |
| TP at Pam's which was weird as Peter Cool was there and made vegetable soup for us.
| Sandy got fig leaves to use on Alex's wart. Whites over. Opened Ian's gifts (Salt and Sugar shakers since he mixed them up once) and Tracy ("seedy" NKOTB). After supper, with an Italian rosé, brought the girls to Supertop for UB40 concert. Played Guinness game. Jackie amazing with her reading ability. Slides and cake (I wrote NKOTB with poppy seeds on it). Played "Give Us a Clue" amd slides until girls called at 11:15PM to be picked up.
| Th - Phone problem - can hear both lines simultaneously. Technician showed up at 12:30PM (was to arrive at 9AM). Reconnected everything - no good. New cable from house to garage - no good. New cable from main point to garage - no good. Direct cable to garage - no good. He left at 3:30PM, so I never made it to school. Doug over for Music Mania. Mike Clark called to thank me for the Spice Girl book.
| Returned Shranko's garage door opener and visited - they gave me a pen holder for watching their house. Gail and I did our walk after supper - this time I wore my hiking boots (to get used to the weight). Saw 20 tiny baby quail (quailettes?) and I didn't have my camera. Up on roof to take care of some glue around a tile that was bothering Joyce.
| Graeme finished the loft - we now have two rooms up there and its closed off from the stairs. Moved bed from Steph's room and put it together with its partner as a bunk bed in my room.
| Papakura at 4PM and Russell drove us to Hamilton where we attended the Eels - Warriors game jammed in with 17,000 others at the beautiful Waikato Stadium. Aunty Bea (local Tina Turner imitator) did a song before I was blown away by Mark Williams doing a great live Show No Mercy. Parramatta cheerleaders were stunning and extremely good. Warriors got off to a 10 - 0 lead only to collapse and fall behind at half. Da Heimo performed "Ride" at half time. Fog filled the stadium and made the ride back a slow one - especially after the 28-18 loss to the Eels. |

| Went to Warriors game. Was an excellent 70 minutes and got dicey near the end (read report).
| email from David - he walked to Ghent and back (6 miles each way in 5 hours).
| T - Letter from Trish with an article on MCS.
| Sa - email from Mike C with the Antique Roadshow episode clip that Sandy was on.
| T - Left at 11:30AM on way to Waiuku. Bought Tip Top Whittakers ice cream - beautiful coffee at Z in Matamata. Gave Ian the updated version of Reminiscing which we played while sipping a 2016 VNO Pinot Noir. That brought good stories: Our nightmares, Fijian kiss by a hard sniff (almost like a hongi) and Ian loved the very large paper sacks at USA grocery stores. Susi made a curry and Gail brought along Colleen's yummy rice salad. Heard Heasley was in Rome protesting to the Pope. Sure enough found several articles with photos. Decided to sample as many of Ian's Nespresso coffees: Roma, Paris Black and Arpeggio. | Haka |
| Sa - Painting Eddie's portrait while listening to the Twins lose to Yankees after starting the game with 3 straight homers (see them). AFL: Down by 40 the Lions came back to beat the Giants 110 to 96.
| Su - Listened to the Twins lose again to last place Tigers. Just like last year, great start only to fall apart in June. Bev, next door, has Covid. AFL: D's over Blues 61 - 44 and then in a completley opposite type game Hawks were down by 96 to Port and then made a comeback losing 151 - 96.
