Adelaide | Murray played the perfect host and took us for a tour of downtown and up to the hills overlooking the city (video). But he couldn't find Windy Point on Mt Lofty. We saw the damage done by forest fires - 99.9% of houses are built of brick.
Then we went to his shop, Greater Asian on Rundle (a K-Road type) where Inemoa was on duty. He brought us to
Hungry Jack's (a Burger King in disguise) for lunch. I'm guessing that he had never been in a fastfood place because he sat at a table and expected to be waited upon, so it was a bit embarrassing for us.
From there we walked to Inemoa's Yin Yang shop in the Adelaide Arcade with a Chinese girl, Jane, on duty. Impressions, aside from all the great sales: I saw more beautiful women here in one day than the past three years in NZ, did not see an overweight person. Everyone dressed to kill. We were in jeans (David in shorts!) and running shoes and were out of place. One very classy citizenry. So we got David a pair of jeans for $20 at David Jones, a department store. We then cruised around a mall for the rest of the day without Heasley. Bought a stainless steel thermos ($38) and Ne got a white washed denim jacket ($25). I bought a backpack for the video gear ($39). No diagonal crossing for pedestrians and Renee almost run down as she headed off at light change. Again the shortness of the people. The city was immaculate - no graffiti, no dirt, no litter. Almost sterile. Thatch fences (video). Bit boring. Crime does not exist. Doors are left unlocked. Apparently banks get robbed. Luckily though, it is ideally located for outdoors people. Minutes from typical Ozzie beaches, hills for tramping, wildlife. Hours from the outback and the Barossa Valley. And for those of you who are indoor fans, they have shopping malls second only to those in the States; what with Targets one could think that's where you were. Inemoa at an Indonesian class so Murray bought BBQ ribs and we ad-libbed the rest with left overs. I went with Murray to pick Inemoa and Brenton (lost his license for failing to renew on time) up. Murray and I went to a video shop (more titles than NZ) where I met the owner, Tom. No Kung Fu vids and a very small adult section. David and Ne fought over Mana's Commodore, so I had to ban it. | |
