1970 Two week break. We checked each boy's bags and mats for stolen items. Chalk a big "X" on the bag and he can get onto the bus. Futile exercise as so much disappears and no one is ever caught. Murray, Peter, Dave and I went with Whites to Susi's parents in Burelevu for a grog (beer instead of yaqona) party. Whites leaving for Scotland. Was a subdued evening.
1972 Bev & Roger, Fiji VI'ers came to visit Bob. Penny and Gwen joined us for a meal and we watched "Once a Thief".
1973 Smithers over after school for a beer to celebrate our residency status.
1976 Cleared out the rear corner and can see another property and so I met Derek, a Brit, who works at a bank. He gave me a box of feijoas. First fire of the winter. Aldersons (rice dish) and Sanders (Waihere Claret and dessert) over for fondue and pizza, Minnesota slides and Newlywed Game.
1993 Went with Whites to walk Panmure Basin which is like a lake. Back to our place for supper and then play Guiness Book of Records game and bridge.
2005 email from Brenda - enjoying Seattle. Warriors game - Owen has bought a new "stripe". Typical pitiful performance where they could have and should have won. Lost 16-14 to Panthers. Watched Thin Red Line with Ann before heading home with a bag of feijoas. Ne bought Star Wars Crispix cereal that had a light-up saber spoon.
2007 Higgotts (David's client) for the first time to look at their computer and ended up taking it back with me. Noticed a masi and asked if they had been in Fiji. They were there in 1970-1 and Mary Ellen Nudd was there neighbor. He taught at Ardmore and would have had the QVS boys who were there in '73 and '74. So I told them I would give them "mates rates" but it be done in "Fiji time".
2009 AE (with a Shingle Creek '08 Merlot), RH (with newspapers), AH (homemade ginger slice) and MH showed up around 6PM. It was a lengthy wait at Fitzy's for the others' orders (Gail called ours in). Ian joined us for TP. Shirley dV sent a cure for swine flu.
2010 Sa - Joyce passed away this morning with Gail at her side. Went to the Warriors games. Juniors won 40 - 36, but the big boys lost 23 - 10 to Canberra. It was White Ribbon day. D.I.V.A. sang three songs before the game and "Austin Powers" did a couple songs at half-time.
2019 W - Peter came at 7PM with a frozen cheesecake that we had once it thawed. He came to check on work they did last year to remove salvia infestation in Papamoa. We caught up on current news (landscaping) and historic stories. Listened to the Twins equal record with 8 home runs beating Orioles 14 - 7.
