| Brought the play to Vatukoula (in the mountains). Sat up front of the QVS truck with Ian and Seru which wasn't all that comfortable, but better than being in the back with the boys. We stopped at the Korovou Hotel for refreshment. Then at Nayavu, which is Seru's village, where we had kava and chow. Stopped at Vitu Levu Bay for lunch, Ian being a good role model (movie). Final stretch we were heading into the sun and it was hard to take - the bumps kept me awake. We stopped at Tavua for ice creams. Drove around the Emperor Gold Mine and up to the school, Nilsen HS, at Vatukoula. After unpacking we had a meal put on by the sogosogo. Headmaster, Bartsch, gave us a tour. Ian and I played bridge with Bartschs (7 kids). When we got to the hall at 11PM the boys were having a grog session. Ian and I slept on the stage - luckily Mr. Bartsch gave me a blanket and sweater - as its cold in the mountains. Movie of Sleeping Giant. | VLevu Bay Sleeping Giant Lunch? |

| Party at Atmores (met Ken's brother, Bob). Haysons there with a friend, Frank, as was Jemesa. Jo and Epeli related university stories from their days at Christchurch.
| Went to optometrist who removed a steel sliver that has been in my eye for four days (got it when wirebrushing the metal stand). He said I was lucky that it came out so easily. Found out that Mrs Dickson teaches bridge.
| My last day of school. Mr J gave me a book about NZ at staff meeting. Colin upset because it was in a brown paper bag after having been wrapped so nicely. Lynn Burns came to the house to say that the Meteors will send me a gift. Sanders over with fish and chips after we decided to skip the staff party.
| T - Mrs Dent had a health officer check our fish pond for mosqitos.
| F - Saw in paper that Zayre had a "going out of business" sale 20% off. Off we went cancelling garage sales plans. Gail went in and it took me 10 minutes to get a car park. We each got loaded down, so Gail went to find a cart. Another hour of shopping and then 2 hours to checkout. $200 stuff for $160: radio, pots and pans, Tonka trencher for David and a trike for Ne, camping stuff, tools, pillow, 4 LPs, pool toys. Went to grocery section and bought apples for us to munch on while waiting. Called mom to tell her to bring the kids and do some shopping herself. Got out at 2PM and went to Dairy Queen for lunch. |

| M - Second practice and Ron ran out of ideas. He is upset that the boys aren't skilled and very immature so he asked me to take over the practices. So here I am in my usual situation - second in charge but really running things for a useless boss. I pitched and hit little Kenny twice.
| Nadine and Martin, in their new Cortina, brought us to his parents' to look at a lounge suite. Heard their stories of traffic woes for the "Torville and Dean" show. Bus to Auckland = $1.80.
| F - Took day off and went to Maxi-Mart and checked out Woolworth's Super Store. Loaded the trunk as prices better than Foodtown. Lunch in Maxi-Mart cafeteria. Sanders came at 8PM and we gave them a hoe as anniversary gift. They gave us our Christmas gifts - Gail a perlite owl, me a perlite frog, Ne a Vancouver pen and pin and David Vancouver and British Columbia patches. Looked at photos of their trip while sipping an excellent Delegat's '83 Cabernet Sav. We viewed our Dec through Taupo trip slides over cake and coffee.
| William T Perriam was very nice about it - came up with same prescription so he washed his hands of me and didn't accept any money. So I am back to square one - 6 years without proper glasses!
