1972 | Suva with Ian with Heasley wearing the bird head, Bob the snake's and me holding up the severed head - all the way. Watched a meke while waiting for the truck to arrive. The Tongan girls staying at SGS went wild over Faitaki. Long agonizing rehearsal. Bob wore the head around town.
1973 | Selfes brought us to Rotorua. Saw Green and Blue lakes and had a picnic at Lake Rotohiki (loaded with ducks). Bob, Gail and I walked through Whakarewarewa where we saw bubbling mud and Pohutu geyser and structures. St Faith's Anglican Church has a unique sandblasted window of Christ who dressed as a Māori chieftan, appears to walk on the waters of Lake Rotorua. Into Ohinemutu meeting house. Bought a carving. After supper we visited Valerie and Tony who live a block from Selfes. | Rotohiki photos |
1975 | Ian and I painted his boat. Checked Heasley's new stereo and the cage that Unger built around his bed to keep mosquitos out. Went to the rara to watch netball and rugby. Deve's with Ian - the place has expanded. Explored the library and found it as depressing as ever. Bridge - Ian and I finally won on a 6 heart bid after losing all night. | Netball Rugby |
1980 | Sa - Six garage sales in the rain. Clock $1, 3"x5" card files, door mat, clothes for kids. Typed up an application for office manager position at Kurt Mfg. We made a Super Duper Valu store for the kids complete with a checkout counter, cash register, bagging... Took Gail to a "surprize" Mother's Day meal at Burger King. Left the kids with Joyce and went to France Ave Drive-In movie, to see "The Jerk", but the line was so long that it took 20 minutes to get across 494 and we didn't get in. So we ended up bowling at Southtown ($1/game). Threw a gutter ball to begin and ended up at 106 but then a had 201 for the second game (Gail 96 and 84). |

1981 | Su - Mother's Day. We brought Gail to work and then to Mom's. Gave her the racoon gifts. Towns brought Chris over. Sandy, Marshall, Pat, Jim, Gloria, Jesse and Judy came. Sat around outside until a feast in the garage. After we played baseball. | Chris |
1983 | T - Lesser over to trade our portable barbecue grill for his Weber. Walked to Armstrong and hit baseballs. Had hot dogs and hamburgers on Weber and settled down to watch Twins but was called in because MMRPTWTR in a loop. We saw a comet - biggest night light I have ever seen. Got in and found JUA had blown so called Bernie in. Fixed the JUA but we couldn't fix MM, so we pulled the transaction. Home at 2AM.
1985 | F - Alan brought Geoff and me into Auckland where we wandered through PC85 at Princess Wharf. Went to a pub on Whitney where Alan shouted. Loud music. As we sat down a Māori woman, drunk as a skunk, joined us and we couldn't get rid of her. She claimed she was friendly but didn't act like it. Took a particular dislike for Alan and at one point we thought she was going to dump her beer on him. But he handled it well. A friend of hers came over to check us out, then Shona joined us, so we just took off. Had KFC and a bad Montana Claret at Sanders and then 29KE for our first night. Kids on Smither's camp stretches, Gail and I on Aldies' mattress. We have a camp table in the kitchen and that is the extent of our furniture.
1993 | Panmure to pick up our passport photos ($82). Auckland and David showed us the building he hangs out in at Uni. Art Gallery. Put our passport applications in ($408). Officer didn't believe that Renee was the same person as old passport since her complexion had changed so much in 5 years.
1995 | Up the valley to explore the Phoenix Mine site. Went in one tunnel and came out another, explored a third that had glowworms. After lunching there we went across the river to explore another shaft. Went down the creek in kayaks (Gail and I in double). After supper we played Bucanners and 500 until 11PM. Saw a weird light moving about Ernie's land. Turned out to be a young Asian couple who had rolled their car. Got them into the trailer to warm up with tea while figuring out what we could do. I walked with them to Douglas' where we called a tow truck. I waited for sometime with them on the road before heading back to Nick's (power off so no heater and it was a clear frosty night and I was freezing when I got to the van). |

1998 | Su - Whites gave us a "crushed" marble 2ft "water maiden" which we put into the rose garden (video). Swimming pool. Trish and David stopped in with a load of our stuff. Doug biked over (1¼ hr).
2001 | Ne and I went to Berthe's with burnt cookies and Mini Burgers for Upwords. I had a brilliant start with "mariner" getting 20 bonus points and went on to win. Berthe hooked a giant manta ray yesterday but had to cut her line after a long fight. Niki and boys came by. Head hurting, so I brought Doug over to meet Berthe instead of playing a game. Met Martin (retired from mill) and his Jack Russell, Suzi. He said he had a "skull" monkey from South Africa that fit in his shirt pocket. Started off looking at all the funny videos and cartoons Doug has been emailed, then funny songs, sad songs and finally dance songs up full blast and that got them up and dancing until I forced the Waiuku disco to close.
2009 | Picked up Apensia and Toakase in Mt Eden and brought them to Waiuku, going past the mill and out to Karioitahi before getting our place for photos in the orchard. We had a nice visit until 6PM when we had a shrimp creole meal. Ian and Susi arrived at 7PM for dessert. Apenisa helped me identify boys in my photos. All in all it was a good time remembering QVS days. I brought them back at 9:30PM driving through hail and lightning. |

2015 | Su - Angi called. Reason she can't get to Minnesota for dad's funeral is because she is doing a 3 week cleansing with a holistic group. Said that dad lived at the nurses station because he couldn't stand his loud roommate.
2021 | M - 60 minute walk to Bayfair (17 cans). Quick prune before rain came. Had the best cookies ever - extreme coffee flavour. Gym and stairs. AFL: Brisbane romped over premiere favorites Port. Watched Fighting With My Family and "Wild Tokyo".
