1960 School - in Gym we had 50 yd dash (6.8 sec = "A") and high jump (4'1"). One of my big life lessons: because I enjoyed research I had expanded the science report from one animal to cover almost one of every phylum and therefore handed it in very late. I was given a double "AA" but it was reduced to a "C" because it was not completed on time. I have never turned in anything late since that day.
1961 Su - High = 86°F. Schindler and I took the 5:47AM bus to school where we walked over to Our Lady of Lourdes for Mass. Class picnic at Rochester. Played rummy with Stowell on the bus down. Baseball - my team Kelley, Chowitz, Slater, Welter etc... lost to Plasha, LeVesque, Brevieu and Whelan. I walked and got on on a fielder's choice. Breitenbucher started and I relieved pitching 7 innings - struck out 4. After lunch Schindler, Schopf, Palicinski and I watched "Absent-Minded Professor" and went bowling. Palicinksi and I (133, 108, 91) lost 639 - 636 to Schindler and Shopft. Dredged golf balls out of a creek. Schindler and I dropped off at Vet's hospital. Walked home in the dark with his transistor playing Del Shannon's "Runaway" cutting across open fields that would one day hold houses and crosstown highway.
1971 Got my 1-A [I can be drafted] classification - appeal failed.
1972 Suva with Whites, Penisoni and Teveti. Looked at the island art display at the Civic Center. Met Phil there and used his ticket to watch some of the Western Samoa show. Walked to SGS where QVS pageant performed to a full house for South Pacific Festival of Arts. It was excellent - great costumes. Afterwards we went to Roscoe's for coffee and stayed until 2:30AM. See

1973 Bob and Mr Selfe drove us to the Mount bus depot. Bus was overloaded, but the views were much better as it was a sunny day.
1974 Had Alfred over for a meal. He told us about his life. Big time rower for Switzerland. He lived in Finland not knowing a single word of the language. His English is passable and he would like us to help him with it. He lives in a small room (closet) over the Globe Hotel pub. Played billiards and snooker.
1975 Up at 6:30AM and into Suva for breakfast with Woodys. Then over to Laucala Bay where Woody's boat, Rub-a-Dub-Dub, is moored. Kelera steered us to Makuluva Island where Susi caught a fish on the reef and boiled for lunch. Ian kept asking us to dive in so he could get a slow motion movie of it. Tide started coming in and we needed to get into the boat in a hurry. We were too slow and got stuck on a reef, so it was off the boat to push/pull it off. I was last one back in and I feared my leg would get crushed between boat and choral. It took a super charged boost of energy to pull myself up in time. Went to Nukulau Island to inspect the damage to the boat - minimal. From there to a sandspit where we dug for very small clams. On the way back the engine died and we had to put the sail up.

1979 F - Two, always two, Mormons prayed for the house and gave me a bible.
1980 Su - Mother's Day - Went to Majestic Oaks Golf Club for a great meal - tons of shrimp - brunch type buffet ($6.50). Had an excellent Christian Brothers claret. Chris and I brought the kids out to look at golf carts and a couple came to use one. The wife saw how David was admiring them and nudge her hubbie into giving the kids a ride (David got to steer). Home where we played Skunk. Two games of 500.

1985 Sa - Simon and I looked through the paper for cars. Drove out to Karaka to try a Sigma that was terrible and over-priced. One car dealer after another and many trials. Jones Locke fellow put on high pressure for a bright orange bomb, even got me into the office for a cup of tea and had me looking at forms. Couldn't convince him that there was no way I would buy the car. Ended up with the 1978 Toyota Corona with 5000 miles for $7750 from Snelson. Breeze's for supper with a Ventuna Boysenberry wine.
1986 Su - First time to Wholesale Tree Company in Takanini - beautiful large place where we spent 3 hours pushing a wheelbarrow choosing 25 plants, including pawpaw, tamarillo and tangelo. Went to McDonald's with Doug. and Papatoetoe Starlight to watch Back to the Future which we had seen but I wanted to watch Doug's reaction to when the first chord was strummed (he loved the whole movie), and Pyramid of Fear.
1990 Gail and I tried to buy a fridge/freezer but Gordon wouldn't give a cash discount on top of a trade-in. Alex is crazy about our dogs (video) and the computer. Gin and tonics then gifts for Sandy and Alex (video). Burnt chicken paprika with the super dry '86 Tavel rosé. Then a Matua '87 CabSav with the cake (video).
1995 Checked out Whangamata. Over to Miranda where we met Ian, Granny and Jackie for a soak and lunch. Home at 5PM so David could get to work. After a coffee at home we went to Whites for supper. Douglas moved back home and is living in a school tent out back. Played bridge .
1996 Sa - Drove out to Waiuku forest with Whites and walked along the beach. Matt, David and I returned along the toi toi track. Played petanque and had a picnic under the trees.
1997 Su - Granich's for lunch (dry and fruity Rene Brbier '94 rosé). Ve and Ne went with Peta to Kenny's to meet up with Jane, a Brazilian who went to Rosehill. Ian and Jackie showed up. He had locked his key in the car at the veggie place. [ed. - I kept a copy for just this reason].
2002 Shranko's. Joan has a mighty lighthouse collection. Bob and I have many common interests. I hung out with him at his WebTV while the women chatted. Prescott H School baseball team playing for State championship and we listened to half-inning on radio until someone hung up the phone (they won).
2004 email from Chrissy who has settled in Canada. Peter H called to chat, then Marcia did (she bought a place in Manukau). Chatted via webcam to Titania.
2007 email from Monique telling about her US west coast tour. Emery's for kiwiburgers. Russell cut his brow when he smacked a horses rump and the bucket rebounded onto his head.
2014 Su - Russell pulled in at 4PM with a bag of feijoas and a box of newspapers. Three handed cribbage and then supper. We watched the Warriors slaughter Canberra 54 - 12 (highlights). Then it was a couple games of Survive.
2022 W - Surgery for a B12 and visit Kevin who is now onto eggs instead of oatmeal. Into Chemist Warehouse for the first time to buy barber's scissors ($11.40). AFL: Tigers 165 (Lynch got his 400th) - Eagles 56 (Kennedy became 25th player to reach 700 goals). Used heater for the first time this autumn.
