| Got onto a bus in Sigatoka and waited. It was full and a commotion began in Hindi and everyone stared at me. Conducter checked his list and asked me where I was going. I said: "Suva". He asked me for my ticket. Told him I didn't have none and offered money. He was very sorry but I must buy my ticket at the depot, not on the bus. Off the bus and sought out someone selling tickets, then waited half an hour for a bus. Made it to Nausori. Tom and I went to see Cool Hand Luke.
| We left at 9:45AM catching the bus downtown. Stopped at Rangiri for a tea break. Bus was loaded with kids going to a camp at Matamata. Driver let us off right at the Selfe's (Bob Hayson's grandparents) house in Mt Maunganui. Bob was there in the rain. Mr Selfe took us for a tour to the Mount and around the town. Listened to a Santana album with Bob, watched tele and had supper. |

| Sanded Ian's self-built boat and painted it. Ranadi came for a visit. Pawpaw juice + lime juice + sugar = good. Walked to Ram's new place, whistled and Ghetto remembered it after 2 years. She came charging and flew into my arms knocking me over. Looked at slides and then after supper we played bridge.
| Su - School and had shots with George, Grant, Wayne Lack and Alan Elison until Rudy gave the Cagers a practice. Mike came by at 2:30PM to get his mower and brought us over to his place for a cup of coffee upstairs in their huge lounge. David and Lia got on well, chasing each other about. We stayed for supper and took home heaps of feijoas.
| T - Gail brought me to school at 3PM where Te and I supervised a group of students (Maureen Weed, David White...) who were bouncing on a trampoline (Trampoline-a-thon) to raise money for Telethon.
| F - Two estate sales - got a clock-radio $5, hand mixer $2, Thermos $1, and tools. Gail went to local garage sales and found a sporty jacket for Te, 3 albums and candlestick holders. Went to Zayre and found everything is now 30% off. Staple gun, Tonka crane for David, shopping cart for Ne, fire alarm, lots of aftershave [ed. - before I had chemical sensitivity - ended up with over 40 different bottles - some became gifts], gloves, waterproof boots...
| Su - David gave Gail an orange/cloves air freshner which he made at school. We were in car at 11AM, but kids so scatty that I sent them to their rooms. Eventually we got to Towns. Joyce nervous about Darryl Town's visit next month. Dick had his car painted for $600. Joined Chris at mom's. We brought over a box of stuff for her garage sale. We bought a blue swivel chair, sprayer, canvas folding chairs, coat for Gail, garden fork and smaller items all for $13. After a barbecue meal Chris and I did some yardwork. Brought Chris home. |

| Th - Geoff W and Peter moved into the IC. Set up my desk after lunch and then chased around all over looking for floppy disks [ed. - 180Kb 5.25"] only to have Alan tell me that he gave my PC away [ed. - didn't get one until 27 June; the guy in charge of PC's and he doesn't have one!]. Went to PHS to watch the dance recital involving Lia, Timmy and Kelly M.
| Opoutere with David and Matthew. After lunch we walked to and climbed Maungaruawahine Pa Hill. About 30 minutes to get to the top. We could pick out the Maori fortifications and had a few good views from the 141m summit. When we returned Gail and I checked out Nick's 13 acres and couldn't find any sign of flood damage. Matthew shot out in a kayak. Boys had a fire and made hot dogs for supper with marshmallows later. Played Wizard's Quest and then 500. I invented a new word to replace "cool": moist. I slept in van with a heater plugged into garage and used a mattress from the loft. |
|
| Sa - Dropped off McEntee trailer in Waiuku and picked up Ian and Susi. While the women cleaned we brought a van and two carloads to 33 Colombo. All day unpacking. Whites came for supper and a very dry Freixenet bubbly. Played the San Marino Grand Prix. |

| Excerpt from an email:"I don't think I have any emotional strain from my illness, but then I am taking two different anti-depressants. If anything I am now more sympathetic about people's situations; you know, going past a house that was in disrepair or a yard that was overgrown in weeds and thinking why don't they just spend a little time and do something about it. Well, now I realize how people who are ill, depressed or just plain old simply don't have the energy to do it. I wake up feeling rotten, slowly come to grips with facing the day (usually while typing a letter like this and sipping coffee). If the day is beautiful, I then start thinking about all the jobs I will tackle. I then manage to do one thing (not all that well either) and collapse into bed until Gail gets home from school and wakes me for cribbage and coffee".
| Th - Scrabble with David at Anna's. Played Lord of the Rings with David.
| F - Anna (black and blue face from bone graft) beat us at Scrabble. Called Russell to organize his visit. His horse, Shesgotit, races here on Monday.

| M - email from Clayton (they have a house). Gym and pool (14).['- AFL: Hawks went out 31 -0 and held the lead until ten minutes to go. Swans then scored 40 points to win 68 - 109. Watched Fantastic Beasts - Crimes of Grindelwald.
| T - Shot out to Bayfair before fumberdorms arrived. Noticed so many half sized paper bags with store logos - I guess plastic bags are finally on the way out.
