Back to Months

Greg Johnson (manager) trained me to do the night audit job at Holiday Inn so I worked through until 7:30AM.
Bought brandy. Went to North Star Lake, where there were millions of mosquitos, with Steve (on leave from Navy) making a potty stop for Steve and we stay in the hunting shed aka Marcel Playboy Club.
Suva with Whites. Ate at New Peiking. Stopped in Nausori at a fair - two ferris wheels, a dice game and ring toss.
M - Very cold morning and I wore my gloves for the first time (ride bike to school). Home at lunch and Gail brought me to see Dr Mills who says that my nasal is now all clear. He gave me a months supply of sleeping pills.
Th - Towns where I changed into my new suit and went over to Permanent Staff only to find that Sandy Marsyla was sick and not in, so I talked to Susan Rood whose specialty is insurance.
Su - Kids dug up worms from garden photo. Turned in 53 pounds of aluminum at Little Canada for $11.66. Fishing with Dad on upper shore of Coon Creek and then on the dam. Sat through a rain shower. No fish for the barbeque. Back to the river, this time on lower shore, but again no nibbles. Stayed until dark and mosquitos. Kids enjoyed it immensely and didn't have a single fight. Dad gave us his old barbecue.
W - Abernathy worried that his department will disappear altogether. Terry Shannon gave me a long-winded explanation of his projects and patted himself on the back a lot. Walked to the remotest end to meet up with an irate Geoff Ball of Slag Reduction who told me get stuffed, he was getting his own XT through his company. After a while he got friendly and we even talked about his family. In the afternoon I helped Ian McKim with some questions put forward by Alan as to the IC plans. Got the details for the Steel Mill from Randall and Anderson. Gail looked at houses and likes one on Clevedon Rd.
Three wattles (weed tree) popped up and growing fast on Thomas fence and I cut one down. [ed.- wish I had done all three as the other two grew into giants each dropping millions of seeds resulting in thousands of new ones popping up each year. Took me and David one summer to remove the monsters and haul away to Aldies to burn].
Helped Steve move his belongings from Lynette's flat in Waiuku back to Connifer Grove. Bowling - IS staff vs Unisys. Couldn't find my ball and only had a 133 (third highest for the 30 bowlers) beating Steve who blew a spare in the 10th and got 129. Todd S topped with 180. My ball (#65) was freed up so I did much better: /xx/xxx97/x = 199, so I had high game and high series. No prizes or awards. Went to a room and drank beer. That's all they had, so I, who was the best bowler, got nothing not even a coke - ironic, eh?
Karen Lees (over for her mother's wedding) came at 6PM for a meal (I made kumara-apricot whip and jell-o) and visit until 10PM. We had a lovely time. From her photos we could see that the boys are taller and Paul is heavier.
Whites at 5:30PM with Renee (Te working - he brought home 20 pies) for supper and bridge (Chausseur cask rosé) until 10:30PM.
F - Jo Katz showed me her photo album of family and friends and during our discussions I found what a solid, well thought out girl she is behind that little girl act. She is very wise for her age. Her father owns factories and is very rich. We showed the photos to the Spanish teacher, Valarie Parker. Laure used digicam to take photos at lunch. Whites over for bridge. Susi so out of it that she laid her cards down when she wasn't dummy.

Listened to the Twins- the highlight was announcers in left field bleachers giving a whole new persective - with Dan Gladden organizing for John Gordon to be "Kiss Camera" with a female rep from a radio station smacking him a big one. Doug over for Rock Trivial Pursuit.
Brought Ne's paintings into Eloise at Papakura Art Gallery. Home in time for Jackie's farewell party (off to Leesburg, Virginia to be a camp counselor). Jackie gave me Michael Moore's Dude, Where's My Country Opened the bottle that Ken gave me for allowing his truck to be on sale on our verge. An excellent 2002 Rosemount Cabernet-Merlot.
Went to Warriors game with Russell and Ann. Toopi, scored two tries and was great on defense. In fact it was a good effort and a 21 - 4 over the Tigers. We were given free Player magazine and it had an ad with Eric Dillon in it. Got back and discovered that I had lost my season pass. Ann gave me "Ear Candles" to try. Listened to the Twins 5 - Indians 4 in 11 innings on Shannon Stewart's 423' homer.
