1961 | High = 38°F. Thanksgiving - we ate at the 620 Club [ed. - owned by a boxer and with a sign showing a steaming turkey in the window and the words "Where Turkey is King."].
1969 | Hawaii: Details in Peace Corps Journal.
1974 | Peter went surfing with Alderson at Port Waikato.
1975 | Drove to Montevideo over icy and bumpy highway to pick up the U-Haul trailer. Averaged around 20mph and got back at noon. I loaded the car. Mark Saboe showed up with a giant friend and we needed him because the large crate I built was so heavy. Luckily it just fit into the trailer (something I hadn't taken into consideration). It took a lot of work to get the three crates loaded. Put all the little stuff in, but no room for two chairs so I gave them away. We hit the road to Minneapolis at 3PM over icy road with a blizzard blowing part of the way. We had coffee at a truck stop and Gail took over the driving which was easier as we went along. Got to Towns at 7PM.
1983 | W - Icy on way to work. Began snowing so I left work at 12:45PM. Got stuck as soon as I reversed in lot. Threw some gravel under the tires and got going. About 4" and I took 61 with a single lane open but hard to see anything. 10" by 4PM and felt sorry for those who didn't leave work early. Radio report.
1984 | F - We took back roads to Eden Prairie Center, where there were no crowds. Got Chris a 'mid-life crisis' kit for his 30th.. Steve N called from Rochester.
1985 | Sa - Clarks over with Sofi who enjoyed the puppies. Sanders dropped off Lia while they went to a 25th anniversary do. Played a 1975 tape of NZ motor racing that Mike identified straight away. Trivial Pursuit with an excellent Corbans CabSav and a very good Babich '83 Chardonnay.
1989 | Jay, from Califormia (teaching at Gail's school) over for a Thanksgiving meal. He has spent 30 years exploring the South Pacific in search of himself. I put on Vikings - 49ers tape since he was from San Fran. | Jay |
1998 | M - Sent 21 Christmas cards. Mowing east paddock when Narelle from across the road stopped me and asked if one of my boys wanted to mow her lawn (old rundown property). We chatted - first neighbor to do so in 6 months.
2002 | Gail and I went to Doug and Marcia's (who when not poking needles into people is poking needles into cloth) new place in Pahurehure for a look-see (central vacuum system) and din-din (Doug did the salad and bbq'd the shishkabobs) while consuming a range of chardonnay's from Timara (2002), Ascension (2001) up Matakana-way and Mission (2000) the latter two being excellent quaffs. They gave me a guitar that they picked up in Bali (when they weren't locked in their hotel due to a Hindu holy day). I gave Doug the Janis Joplin and Black Sabbath books and a tee-shirt. | dental lifeguard dental chef |
2003 | Gail was up at 6AM and brought the cuzzies to Waitomo Caves and Rotorua. They got back around 9PM happy to have seen a cute kiwi and the glowworms.
2008 | Trish and Karen came by with lunch and we had a nice 2 hour visit with the usual many funny stories from Trish's complex life. | >|
2010 | T - Another long drive with nothing but sugar cane to look at. This time from Mackay to Yeppoon. Stopped in Rockhampton for lunch. Checked in at While Away B&B and after a long chat with the hosts, Richard and Lois, we drove around the town looking for eateries. We got a special of two rooms for only $20 over the price of a single. Met an elderly German couple also staying. After a siesta we went out to eat at Coffee Club where our waitress, Sahra (not a mis-spelling), laughed a lot and reminded me of Drew Barrymore. Had a tremendous '09 Rosemount Twilight (grenache, shiraz, voignier) with the meal (I tried an Aussie fish, barramundi. |
|
2011 | W - Got my driver's license renewed at VTNZ off Hewlett. Over to Atmore's to help Colleen copy photos from camera to computer and stayed for a visit.
2017 | Th - Gail had her first iron infusion ($75).
2018 | F - David and Thomas came at 3:30PM for a catch up. Had curry meal with a sweet 2017 Stoneleigh Pinot Gris. Did a stroll long the beach. Looked at Thomas' photos from his trip to Japan and Korea. Crushed what looked like a beetle and it stunk up the house (smelling like burnt electronics).
