1963 Teachers went to Stasik's funeral so school didn't start until 10:30AM. We were in English class when the news came through at 1:30ish that President Kennedy had been shot. Spent the rest of the day watching the special shows on TV.
1969 Hawaii: Details in Peace Corps Journal.
1973 Tried to find Sanders' house on Clevedon Rd., but the Kiwi numbering system stopped me cold. So I walked back to town and called. Mike came to get me. We had tacos with a Christian Brothers Pinot Noir on the hand adzed table-chairs that Mike had built. We made plans for camping. Mike saw a Kenwood Jumbo for sale in Auckland for $695 (more than twice what I had paid in Fiji).
1974 Peter up for the weekend. Went to a takeaway where a West Indian was trying to get us to buy a Southern Fried Chicken.
1975 Brought everything in from the garage and put the last of our stuff into last crate, sleeping bags and all. Gail went to Shelby's where she found out that the alleys won't get plowed for about a week. Mayor's wife was having her hair done, and she called her husband who sent a snowplow to do our alley. So I went out and finished shovelling the car out. Gail went downtown and got a pizza. She was able to sell our bowling bowls for $12. Watched The Carol Burnett Show Pt 1 and Pt 2.
1984 Th - Dick (in basement watching football), Chris (card), Mary Ann, Joyce, Lavonne and Dad over for a big meal with a very good Inglenook cabernet. Kids went back with Towns. Dad said he would take Sugar when we leave for NZ. Gave him back his air conditioner.

1985 F - Reg called to say that house sold unconditional to builder Lewis Cran.
1987 Karioitahi with Aldies and Whites. Water too cold for me, but the kids got in. Doug never got the wind surfer going. Rain drove us away but only after Ian had stolen wood from the forest. Stopped at Whites for coffee and ice cream. After Aldies departed we played bridge (Gail and I losing after some exciting hands).
1990 Attended Operations Support workshop in which the standard software was chosen. Alan Bennett's first public speech and he was bad, bordering on waffling. I was really upset but since I was sitting next to Peter, I bit my tongue. Peter gave me a chunk of plastic to note my 5 year service at the mill. I threw it away.
1996 F - First go at Internet at home. Checked for "Malecek" and downloaded a polka.
2000 W - Jade told her mother that Mrs Malecek's father works at the college.
2003 email from Jerry D with photo of his grandparents' wedding that includes my grandmother as bridesmaid. Gail picked up the cuzzies - her cousin Arlene and daughter Angi and friend Bonnie with daughter Courtney. Had pavlova and made plans for tomorrow.
2010 M - Windscreen got a chip in it yesterday, so we went to the Townsville Budget and told them I was going to have it repaired, which we were able to have done immediately at Obrien's by Andy. Cost A$129 and it took Gail the whole time to get a cup of coffee made (long wait for a cup and then couldn't figure out how to use the machine). Weather packed it in and we got some heavy rainfalls. Stopped at Ayr to swap over driving and had lunch at McDonald's because they have free Wi-Fi. Found the town to be unspoiled (aside from the McD) with many small shops and we had a look through one of them. Stopped at a fruit stall and loaded up - amazingly large and super delicious R2E2 mangoes for only 50¢. Our goal for today was Mackay, meant to be only a stopover. But once again we found it to be a very interesting looking place and drove around many of the CDB streets. Mainly because I had failed to prepare a map to the motel and the confirmation email only had a PO Box. Ended up calling them and asking where they were. The "they" is Coral Cay Resort Motor Inn. I expected it to be a businessman's basic rooms, but it is an extremely nice and upmarket place. Into the coolish swimming pool for a refreshing dip.

2011 T - Cross-stitch that Jan made for us arrived. Angi and Carl called.
2013 F - Gail and I went to Te Puke to have Krista frame Jan's cross stitch.
2015 Su - Large and lengthy white burst with a large floater appeared in left eye. So we went to Hospital at 3PM and got home at 7:30PM and had to cancel racing. Dr Welfare said no retina tear.
2021 M - Day 95 of Delta lockdown (4615 cases). Covid case in the village (Villa 121) - gym and pool out of bounds. Russell called because he had heard about the case.
2022 T - Countdown - rare to find eggs these days and I was told NZ is running out of onions. Bought the annual R2E2 mango ($7).
2023 W - The annual R2E2 mango ($6) were too ripe. 75 minute walk along beach to Concord. I pulled pork and added it to a can of Chili for supper. Gym and pool (14).
