1969 Hawaii. Details in Peace Corps Journal.
1970 First taste of kavika (same as star fruit in Hawaii).
1981 W - Began a speed reading course (267wpm @ 100%). Gail's first night at Woody's (she bussed dishes) and made $7.30 in tips. David is now doing spelling at school. Ne is learning to read and write at home. Watched Greatest Commls II: tape and list.
1983 F - First dose of black tongue - dry, salty, cracked lips. Called a doctor and he said to brush it with toothbrush.
1989 Whites, Heather and Mary arrived late afternoon for a tour of yard, chat outside then supper with a Forest Flower Wine Co '89 Blush that was dry and good. To Aldies for a bonfire and fireworks display.
1995 Sa - After supper we all went to Aldies for Guy Fawkes bonfire with Bickertons and Johnstons.
2004 Sandy's exactly at 11AM, only to stand around while she is on phone. 20 minutes later I explained why I was there - she had forgotten. So quick call to her mother and get Charlotte ready. But not before Mike let his displeasure that the duck was roaming be known. We took the 1PM ferry to Waiheke (Sandy left tickets in purse in car that was blocks away at Mike's office and then they wouldn't take a check...). Met there by Penny and Sam (Scottish terrier-poodle) who brought us to her Surfdale home. Had lunch on the deck then set up the computer. Couple hours with Penny covering basics. Sonia and Genevive joined us and we went to Stefano's for an Italian meal over a local red, Sisters, by Passage Rock. 8PM ferry and I got home around 10:30PM.
2006 Mini Whites came over for a bonfire (it was a beauty - no smoke. Fire engine came down driveway to have a look at it) and to use up ours and their old fireworks. I was tapping a spinner to keep it going, not knowing that it had a powerful blast for its conclusion. Eyes saw white for a few seconds and I have some burnt/hairless knuckles now.
2007 Mike and Billie Ward visited in the afternoon.
2008 Policeman John Hartley called to see how Gail was doing and he told me that the two drivers in the SUV were okay, despite what the newspaper article said. I got to the hospital at 6PM. Walked in with Patricia and husband - they are from Te Toro. Gail had the cast on left arm removed, but when they removed the one on her right leg they decided to wait three days before putting on the new ones. She also has a wheelchair by the bed. She got a card from The Awhitu Penisula Landcare team (the boat cruise she had been on before the accident). Gail dictated what she wanted in each Thank You card.
2011 F - Woken by sounds of chainsaw bring down the Australian Frangipani (requested it yesterday). Barry delivered the sunroom's screen, chair and tables.
2017 Sa - I was in the bathroom with great pain in lower gut and dry retching. After 4.5 hours I checked with Village nurse and she was clueless. So I had Gail bring me to hospital at 11PM. Helen at triage sent me straight in where doctor Victoria did an anal check and ruled out constipation. Urine showed blood, so feeling was kidney stone. The lovely Christine began filling me up with panadol, tramadol, morphine and a diclofenac suppository over a period of 4 hours. Pain cut in half and next doctor never showed up so it was decided to keep me over night and Gail went home at 4:15AM. Moved to a private room and tried to sleep which was impossible with the pain.
