Fiji's Independence: Boat race was cancelled due to rough water. Stopped in at the Form I bure being fixed up for tonight's party. Eric upset that Jo drank all of the port. White in a kilt, raised a Scotish flag in his yard and I attached my US flag and the new Fiji flag;
Simon put his Welsh flag onto his car aerial. Official raising on school's mast was spur of the moment and only Apenisa Vata and a couple staff showed up - Heasley beat on a drum (movie).
Tore up a shirt and wrote "Lalaga" (independence) on its back. About 5:30pm we moved the gear to the bure. Brief stop to join a grog party outside the bure. When I went back in Jo was completely stoned, laying on the floor
and couldn't play (and he was our LEAD guitarist). After a shot of rum I was ready and I banged those drums hard. Jo was terrible so Woody turn his volume off. We only had four songs, so it wasn't a big deal. Jo knocked the drums over and I let a Fijian take over.
Master Netani and Eric (I think he was the longest staying European at the school) made speeches. Old Bialu was there and he kept right up with Suli in the dancing department. He claimed to be 94 and I talked in Hindi with him for awhile. |

Finished Body Language - waste time. Gail played her first game for Leeds and they lost to College. I ended up being their coach. |
