1958 Angi and I both were Confirmed at St Peter's. My Confirmation name is Bernard. Grandparents came down with Angela and Ralph.
1960 School - each week we have "missionary day" and we donate money. Today my row was last, contributing $4.58 out of the home room total of $39.42. A nice thing of being at a Catholic school is all the extra time off. Today periods were 30 minutes and we got out at 12:30PM.
1969 Hawaii: Attended church at the top of the hill. Hitched to Hapuna beach with Tom Van Loan. Details in Peace Corps Journal.
1972 Ken brought a box of supplies from Hoffsis - popcorn, Fritos, Mad magazines, Tootsie Rolls, Kool-Aid and chili powder.
1973 Gail and I went downtown (Friday so its late-night shopping) and bought a copper etching of a Maori chief. Grocery shopping and we were given a lift home by Wendy R.
1975 Drove to St Paul for a Mexican lunch with Chuck and Inez. Watched first half of Vikings game before going to Southdale to buy clothes and take Angi [ed. - she worked at Dayton's] home where we had supper and looked at slides. She is going with Loren Strand. Left at 9:30PM and got back to Dawson at 12:30AM.
1988 First KMart opened - in Henderson.
1991 Mom and I checked out Lynx Lake store, camp grounds and the lake. Met a guy who claims to have boated on 97% of North American waters. Gave us a brochure about his books. Walked along the stream that feeds the lake. Drove through forest to see what remains of Walker, a gold mining town 100 years ago. Angi called. Walked to water tower. Watched the Twins win 1st game of World Series 5 - 2 (homers by Hrbek and Gagne).
1993 Nick DuFresne has a fast, 50MHz computer and I loaded software onto it.
1997 Su - Whites over for a meal and our trip videos.
2002 We went with Chris and Celia to Mall of America to play minigolf. Only problem - it has been replaced by 'Cereal World'! An hour in the mall and I was all perfumed out, so we left, but I must say that the mall is FANTASTIC. In 1997 it was boring and dead. But now it has so MANY different and unique shops that I could spend a couple weeks there and I see why people come from all over the world.
2003 Whites and mini Whites showed up to have a picnic in the orchard (was too cold for them at the beach).
2006 email from the Fijian Ambassador to USA, Jesoni Vitusagavulu.
2007 Brundell stopped in - just back from Japan (thought he lost his ticket to get there - eventually finding out that JAL now uses e-tickets).
2010 T - Gail and I headed to the Mount via Matamata. Under 3 hour drive (200Km) to get to Atmores. Spent the day visiting and catching up over a Glenmorangie. Met their Main Coon Tessa and Frank's Burmese, Rambo, who is an uninvited guest. We had a terribly sweet Plain Label '08 Gerwurtz out of Gisborne with our supper. And an '09 Oxford Landing Merlot.
2011 W - Val, Social Committee, dropped in to tell us what is going on in the village. Sandy (manager) dropped by with flowers to welcome us. Ann, nurse came by with forms. And inbetween all that I continued to unpack and move cartons into attic over garage.
2023 Th - Te sent a photo of his garden 10 years ago, so I asked him what it looked like today. He sent the photo. 60 minute walk to Sandhurst. Biked to 34OC to do the usual yardwork. Pool (new pb = 26).
