Mill Camp  I was excused from class today as I have a sick tummy (could be the wild plums that I ate yesterday).  I decided to do a map of Ookala.  The cooks told me that their are 12 "camps".  I went down to the mill camp [ed. - lost the map, but this group is closest to the noisy mill.  Met some Japanese men who were planting peanuts in their garden.  Their English was very poor and I didn't hang around too long.  I finally found Rachel Sato's place and she showed me around.  Took me down to the edge of the cliff (200 ft) and from there we could see Ookala Point.  Men climb down the cliff and fish from the point.  She showed me around her yard: 2 caged chickens, 2 big dogs that couldn't scare a rabbit and her pride and joy, wild pigs - cute but potentially dangerous.  She gave me oranges and passionfruit straight from a tree.

Mill camp is very distressing; all the houses are shacks, badly run down.  In her house alone there are ten people and two bedrooms.  They seem to save everything and the walls are covered with photographs.  Her elderly mother sat in the living room, pretty much as a much respected boss.  There is a television, but it is unplugged when ironing needs to be done.  I had a meal with them.

Our D-Group had Ernest demonstrate to us what to do with avocados.  He mushed them up and spread them on saltine crakers.
