Lance, Tom and I did a fair bit of galabanting around. We stocked up on stuff at Army Surplus stores - I got a WWII rubber trenchcoat [ed. - came in very handy in Fiji]. As a result of this wandering we missed one meeting completely and walked in late for a second one. Smallpox and yellow fever shots. Saw a movie on Fiji. From it I would say that there are no "jungles", its hilly and
of course, the movie glamorized the beauty of the place. Tom and I spent the evening together shopping for all the necessities of a world traveler. Later that night Alan and I were only ones around and he talked me into going to a party in another room.
On the way there we ran into Connie, Pam and Mary Ann (playing guitar), so Alan went back and got Lance's guitar and a duo commmenced. After a while we all went to the party - forty people crammed into one room. What had I, a rock 'n roller, gotten myself into with
all these hippy folksingers? Al and I broke away and went for a walk in beautiful downtown San Jose after midnight. We exchanged life histories and ended up at MacDonald's, getting to bed after 2AM. |
