1968 | Steve, Kincy and I went to a farm south of city where Daniels' trailer-house and horse are stored. We went there to discuss our campout plans. Steve rode the horse bareback. Stayed overnight in the trailer. Kincy got drunk and during the night while we were sleeping he took Steve's VW and totalled it. |

1970 | Our housegirl, Meri, brought me a shell necklace. [ed. - hardly a girl, rather a toothless granny who came by bus from Lodoni a couple times a week and really didn't do very much. She didn't speak any English. Once Kelera moved in she wasn't needed].
1974 | Dicksons over for snooker, cribbage and stories to go with their constant bantering with each other and bad jokes; e.g. What do you get if you mix a Pom with a pig? An intellectually handicapped pig.
1975 | Dad's with Chris for slides. Dad gave me a Whitenauer watch [ed. - stopped working in 2022]. Bought oil from Dick and ate at Town's. He won Twin Cities best gas station.
1979 | F - David to Mater Misarcordiae Hospital for a tube into each ear, adenoids out, septum moved and arteries in left nostril cauterized (our bill = $52). He went under the knife at 2PM. We sat around with other Papakura families, including the Hans. Veranda loaded with toys and that kept Ne busy. When he went into surgery we went to Auckland for McDonald's and bought mom two 5 star doubles at Sheepskin Rug shop. Back to hospital at 4PM. He came to around 5PM and fell immediately back to sleep. He hadn't even taken the sedative that was on the table to help him through the pain. Nurse felt that he was so deep that he wouldn't wake for the night and sent us home.
1980 | Su - Schinders downtown to get a St Paul newspaper to look for rentals. Wasted $30 on "Dial-A-Home" that gave us a list of houses for rent. Back at home we chose 11 to call and almost everyone we called was irritated because they shouldn't be on the list.
1981 | M - Frank is copying Schauer by not wearing his shoes at work. He left them at a terminal so I stuffed them with tissue paper. He knew who did it straight away.
1983 | W - Went to Fort Snelling "live" day with the Lundholms. Went into the Commandant's house, blacksmith's and a shop where we bought jew's harps. Watched the soldiers being drilled. Lunch at MacDonalds. Parked in StPaulCos lot downtown and walked over to St Paul Museum of Science, but didn't go in when Dave found out there was a $3 entry charge. Went to Co-Ops and a Goodwill where I bought 17 paperbacks. Supper at Jerry's. Waitress was Armstrong school nurse and knew Ne.
1990 | Brought everything from home to mill as I thought it would be my last day in the Info Center. John and Peter told me that they want me to continue when I return - doing procedures and training. Neil brought me to lunch at the Porterhouse in Papakura. Nice interior, good food, expensive. I handed over everything that I could think of to Neil. Left at 7:30PM.
1997 | Su - Day 34 of our 3 month journey around the world. See 1997 Trip Photo Journal.
2001 | Picked Doug and Marcia up at airport (back from The Fijian). Cuppa and a sandwich at their Burt place, picked up ladder at surgery and brought it to Trish (new kitchen) and picked up Jaz (Marcia's dog). Took the old countertop [ed. - made it into slide for pool]. Dropped the dog off, picked up Marcia and she brought me home to find a postcard from Fiji. Top story - the marama levu in Suva who let off one that sounded like a steeple jack and gave Doug a big smile when he gave her the thumbs up.
2002 | Dad woke me at 11AM because Lavonne's son, Howard with wife, Mary were on their way over. Struggled through that for a couple hours and then we shot over to Vall's for a meal and tour of the land that they have reclaimed from the bog. Home and a walk with dad. | skunk catchers |
2003 | Trish (Jaz) called as did Ann H (CD-drive). While Gail and I were playing cribbage Joan dropped in for a nice visit. email from Doug with photos from US trip. Watched Warriors beat Dragons 30 - 20.
2007 | 10AM call from Ne. Car went dead on her by Jesmond Road. I drove out and called AA from the cafe around the corner. She used my car to go to Clark's. I waited for Perry from Graham Crispe Auto Electrical to come from Pukekohe. He was able to determine that battery wasn't charging, so a quick fix with a wire and we drove back to the shop. I wandered over to check out the new library and read for an hour. Walked back to be told that car needs a new alternator. So I walked over to The Warehouse and back. Fellow just arrived with a used alternator and said it would be another 90 minutes to put it in. So I walked to McDonald's and got a sweet chili chicken deli sandwich and coffee and read for an hour. Then I walked along the other side of the tracks. Finally, a short vigil at the shop where they didn't have a chair.
2008 | Called dad we talked for an hour, about Lavonne, the new apartment and new friends. He seemed sharp as a tack. | Dad's 86th |
2009 | M - Brought in the last of the carrots; 4 coming in at around 1KG each and the big one (in the photo) at 1.4kg.
2018 | F - Russell and I got to the game with 30 minutes to spare and it took me that long to get our burgers from The White Lady. Good game holding the Knights to 4 points (try on a forward pass) for a much needed victory. Short kickoffs are now vogue (highlights). Made the drive home in record 1hr 51min to be in time record an AFL game at 1AM.
2022 | W - Lili had first puppy cut and we can see her white eyelashes now.
