Picked up Lyn H., breakfast at Perkins Pancake House and went to the farm. Chris and I played catch and explored across the road. We went to Redwood Falls and then Lucan and Bernie's store and lunch. I put a basket up on the garage. Grandpa showed us a card trick and a couple rope tricks [ed - I remember one rope trick]. |
1964 |
At farm with Night Owls. We went to the old farm and fished in Smith Creek. |
|
1965 |
Steve, Kincy and I went up to North Star Lake. Steve's grandmother was in the hospital so we had the whole place to ourselves. Set up our tent on Fredrickson's land and we had a boat to use. |
|
1966 |
First session with the Lakeville band - I played rhythm. They gave me simple parts to 3 songs [ed. - "Satisfaction" was one]. |
|
1967 |
Olson's, but no practice and in fact, no band as Norm has been drafted. Jim, Lyle, Norm, Gary and I went to Putt-Putt and then Magoos [ed. - teenage pizza/night club with a section for those old enough to drink].
Sir Rake Street Band played, dressed in velvet suits with ruffled collars and cuffs. |
|
1968 |
Got new tires and supplies, then Steve, Kincy and I drove up to stay in Newstrom family hunters' cabin (shed) at North Star Lake near Marcell. |
|
1970 |
Mike Gawel and Rand Dybdahl (Fiji II) visited. Celebrated Kaulo's birthday with rum and had a big feast of steak and lobster (fresh from ocean at 50¢). |
|

Police dropped in to tell us to call Joyce (we have no phone) who had word of an interview that Gail had an interview at 2PM. |
1976 |
Aldersons brought us to Sanders' where we loaded up on oranges. Photo. |
|
1982 |
Su - 10AM Mass - so much noise from the kids that I couldn't hear and a constant flow of kids going to get a drink or use the lavatory walking right across in front of the priest. |
1983 |
M - Rented a boat and spend day fishing. Bought about 40 minnows for $1 and used half of them. Caught a couple crappies. Very long lake and whole day in the sun giving me a burn.
Others went swimming. Only ones left in the campground. Cooked the fish and they were very good. |

1990 |
David had his final exam and when he got home we brought the VCR to Aldies and they brought us to the airport in van. Ian and kids (with Bert and Ernie balloons) met us there. Jackie gave me a lei.
Problem at security because Ne didn't look like her passport photo. Once on United flight 818 I found the parking ticket in my pocket. So Doug had to pay $25 penalty and I became the butt of many jokes. People so happy that I made a mistake.
Lousy wine to go with chicken veg terrine salad/chicken Jamacian, but a good movie, A Shock to the System. Hawaii at 6:15AM. David met a Papakura Brass band mate in waiting room, which turned out to be the wrong one, so made dash at last minute to get onto United 848 at 8:45AM. LA at 4:50PM.
Took motel bus to Holiday Inn Annaheim ($50 for room) arriving there at 6:40PM. We weren't tired after 17 hour flights so got on the bus and went to Disneyland. Tried to get Ne in as a "child", - when asked what grade she was in we said "third form" which the girl of course couldn't understand, so we paid the full $25 to get in.
Watched the parade (video). Did the Pirates of the Caribbean (video), Stars Tours "Endor" (video), Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (roller coaster). Only Ne and I dared to do Space Mountain.
I had been waiting 10 years since I was last in DL and I bought $111 worth of Goofy items! We stayed until it closed at 1AM. |

1997 |
F - Day 39 of our 3 month journey around the world. See 1997 Trip Photo Journal. |
2002 |
Walk with dad and we sat on bench for about an hour in the great weather. Painted the step railings and primed the steps. Another walk with dad after supper - everyone we meet says "hi" no matter what age. |
|
2010 |
Su - Mt Smart, where the juniors pulled out a last minute win. Big boys trailed, but ran in a few towards end (hat trick to Vatuvei) to beat the Knights.
Chatted with old fellow who sits at the end of our aisle - his company cleans the uniforms for all professional sports teams and does the visiting teams also. |
2011 |
M - It snowed for two minutes.
Strong winds blew over sections of veggie garden fencing. Whites over for bridge. |
|
2013 |
Th - David won the Scrabble game thanks to using all 7 letters once. |
2022 |
M - Listened to the Twins 3 - Angels 5 in 11 innings while painting portraits. Watched Below Zero. AFL: Lions had 9 starter out with Covid, but still managed to give lowly Bombers a run before inevitable loss. As in life, Hawks slaughtered Crows. |
|
2023 |
T - Pricked my right hand while pruning palm yesterday. Overnight it swelled up and the pain kept me from sleeping well. Posted 35 Goofy figurines to Rumaine. I called Russell - had 8 teeth pulled prior to having a heart valve operation. AFL: Saints 122 - Hawks 93 (Bruest had 7 goals). Demon's 130 - Tigers 98 (Petty had 6 goals). |
2024 |
Th - Ne picked up David and of course it was a big mixup, but he got here. Early chilli con carne then it was Ares followed by Cascadia. |
