1969 | Hawaii: Details in Peace Corps Journal.
1970 | Suva with Whites. Met Ian at Desai's and we bought $100 worth of books for the library. New Peking for lunch with Susi and her first cousin and McDougall. JMc brought me to Gokal's where I picked up the Akai reel-to-reel tape deck and a movie projector. Ian bought a "laugh bag" and he was playing it all the way home. Went to McDougall's. I brought the drums and after playing a while handed them over to Jone, then Solo and even Netani had a turn. It was a bang up barbecue with everyone getting plastered. Simon lit cigarettes with his finger. Then a session of match stick tricks. Isireli and Isikeli went wild over the laugh bag - they sat the whole night listening to it. Breezes organized races across the lawn. Heasley and White went through dorms at 2AM with bagpipe music waking the seniors who were still around. | Suli |
1971 | Boardman's first visit to QVS and I show him around. We talked to the cooks and Kiti. Singh made us a curry then we went to Whites and Murphy's where we looked at my latest movies and played billiards. Heasley moved out, making room for Bob to stay overnight. We talked until 1AM.
1972 | A Sepik mask (Tambunum Village, Gable End, New Guinea) from Hoffsis' cousin who is a missionary there arrived. Atmores stored their car in our garage - they are off to NZ for a vacation. Gail played tennis with Haysons while I carried firewood over to Whites.
1976 | Walked over to Aldies' new house. Doug, Te and I went into the pool. Sanders came. Had shandies and a tour of the yard. Had a barbecue meal outside. |
|
1977 | Su - Barbecue at Fornusek's (in the rain). Looked at Paul's stamp collection.
1979 | T - I walked to dairy and I was amazed that a can of Coke® sells for 43¢. Foodtown and we hit $102!
1993 | While I did yardwork Dad turned some compost. Ian, Granny and kids visited. Totara Park after supper. Looked at the videos from our Rotorua trip and some family ones.
1996 | W - Fiona's chair broke and dropped her to the ground. Cards from Johnsons and Steve G (in England working for a cellphone company). Brought a Mac home so David can transfer files to DOS for Judy. | ex SPG |
1997 | Th - Zelie and Jim visited. Laure stopped in. Doug came for Music Mania with her and Ne.
1998 | F - Went to Cossie Club with Sandspit teachers. George Virtue shouted me a gin. His father was born in Fiji and he spent a year in Dallas playing rugby. Sat with Toni Ristic and Craig, Carolyn Wilson and Debbie Blewitt. Chatted with Diane LaTrobe, Maxine Bremner and Ken Belcher. Had an excellent '97 Jacobs Creek Shiraz/Cabernet and a very sweet Misty Peak Muller Thugau with the meal. Got a pair of sunglasses as a gift and Gail a box of coffee scorched almonds. She was given a "Dumb and Dumber" certificate for as a child freezing her tongue to a bike. | George |
2003 | After approximately 2 years finally caught up with Berthe who came over for a visit. Bert been and gone and now its Martin who's moved back in with Suzie. She gave Gail a lovely Dutch serving tray.
2009 | F - Brought David to McLean Park for the start of Pakistan cricket test. Drove to Clifton where we joined 16 others for a 9Km tractor ride along the beach to the gannet colonies. Our driver, Rod, also stopped and pointed out geological things along the way. A couple teenage girls laughed up Rod's jokes, so much so that I warned them to stop, eh? Met a Dutch couple (spending three months in NZ) while waiting and we hung out with them. Swiss, Japanese and a Canadian but no one from Australia which is where the chicks fly to on their very first flight. Drove through waves and one of my boots got soaked. Stopped at a spot with several rookeries and had time for photos. At the end of the line it was a hike up the plateau. Gail only made it halfways. But I got there for more photos and video or two. Ride back was direct with two stops (one to show volcanic ash from 9,000,000 years ago). Saw broad front terns in the terraces and a few rock pigeons tucked away for the night. |

2011 | Su - Smithers family came around 5PM for a meal (excellent Thornbury '11 SavBlanc) and Alhambra (okay Rosemount '10 Cab Merlot). Lots of fun.
2018 | T - Evo to buy a bike and a heap of related items from Chris A.
2023 | M - Gail saw Rickards about her breathing difficulty and I was called at 4PM to bring her to the hospital. 1 hour wait in ED, then off to ADU where blood was taken, ECG done and nothing for 3 hours, aside for calls from Ne and Te. Finally at 9:45PM, we were given sandwiches and tea. An X-Ray at 10:20PM. Only one doctor and big backlog in ED, so she was put into a bed at 10:50 and I was sent home.
