1967 | Drove Angi and Chris to Grandpa's funeral. Being children of eldest son, we first in procession from church to the grave. Cousin Steve and I unable to accept the jocularity at the meal afterwards in the Church basement.
1969 | Hawaii: Details in Peace Corps Journal. Card is from Klyberg. | ![]() |
1974 | Set up the rubber tree as our Christmas tree. Simon came over and we exchanged tape recorders. | ![]() |
1980 | Su - Watched Vikings beat Cleveland 28 - 23. Down 13 zip at half. Scored twice in last two minutes. Won on a 46 yard pass with no time left (video).
1982 | T - Steve and Roxane (with Julie) stayed over night. We looked at their slides of Saudi Arabia (not allowed to take photos). They put on typical dress of the people and regaled us with many stories of the restrictions imposed on foreigners. Had an excellent '80 Sebastiani Gamay Beuajolais. Steve and I talked shop until late.
1984 | F - Storm in full bloom when I got up. Great to take the bus... but we sat on 61 for 30 minutes to make the turn onto Warner. No accident, just slow moving traffic. Got to work at 8:20AM. Walked to Radisson with supervisors and Diem where we had a buffet lunch on the revolving 24th floor. Chris (our local lush) and Cliff never made it back to work. I wrote programs to play tunes. Had a new young and nervous driver on the way home and I navigated him to as far as my block (near the end of the run). Sugar is crazy about popcorn and tonight she was stealing out of the bowl when no one was around. I gave her a lecture on being greedy. | ![]() popcorn ![]() Radisson |
1985 | Sa - Sanders dropped in with a wine cask. They leave tomorrow for Vancouver.
1986 | Su - Bussed to Fullers vineyard with St Mary's staff. Ate in a glasshouse with grape vines everywhere. Sat with Sanders and Ramekas. Chatted with Tim and his father Dick (taught big machinery driving in Papua New Guinea while on dole in NZ for a "bad" back). The dry white, rose and moselle were undrinkable. Kathy and I stayed with the wine based punch. The barbecued steak was the best I have ever had - the food was excellent. Good band that got everyone up except me and Gail. Left at 10:15PM and the driver got lost so we hit Papakura at 11:30PM.
1989 | St Mary's prizegiving Mass. Gail drove there with Ne. David and I were walking it when we were picked up by Malcolm. We sat next to Browns (Natalie), and Szabos (spoke to Mrs about Catherine and music) and behind Todds and Malloys. Maori welcome, then the Mass and speech by special guest Jerry Brown - director of Auckland Catholic Schools - (chatted to him afterwards). Ne given a certificate for being sensitive to others and one for creativity. Surprized when she was given a special certificate for being top Form II in Art and Craft. Good report card too - A's for effort.
1993 | Ne, Dad and I went via Ponga Road (photo of Drury) to see Cossey Dam and Hunua Falls where we had our lunch. All by ourselves aside from two boys diving into the pool. Back home we played a few games of croquet and Dad improved each time. Had him give me family tree and got many great stories. Rosehill fire on news (video). | ![]() Papakura ![]() |
1997 | Su - Breezes came for lunch. To Aldies where I put day-glo paint onto the mailbox numbers. Doug wanted a hug after his nose job. Home for Whites arrival. A meal outside and then bridge. | ![]() |
2003 | Corinne and kids arrived about 2PM without Jon. After a tour of the paddock (pulling kids in wagon) we ended up going into the warm pool. Jaz and I had good fun, while the other two littlies were in and out again. Meal, joined by Stephanie, I sat with Codi and we set a record for the number of "cheers" he wanted - unfortunately the Jacob's Creek '02 reisling wasn't that good. Opened gifts - cookies that Eden didn't really want to hand out - mainly because the basket they were in was hers. Gave them the various toys and THE tee-shirts. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
2007 | I was woken at 9AM when Ian called. Sunny day so Gail went to a Ocean Baths with the Whites and for a walk along the coast with Ian. I got up again an hour later when cleaning lady came in loaded with perfume. David slept for 13 hours, had a coffee and then back to bed for another 3 hours. Worked our way to Bella Vista for Matt and Leah's wedding. Short outdoor ceremony, conducted by Tony, a local policeman. Jackie read a poem. Jason Oliver performed "Slice of Heaven" during the form signing. Lou took photos. We weren't allowed to make a big deal over Leah's uncle, Steve Bisley. Drinks on the foyer gave me a chance to chat with Dale Oliver and Scott Bairstow. Gail and I were honored with the best seats at the meal. I was next to Gary Sheen, Kristin Ashley's partner, who is an alpaca farmer. The meal was superb, though I did have to swap with Gail as my lamb had cheese, so I ended up with her beef. Washed it down with a Glenbawn CabShiraz. Speeches by Kristin A, Chris Mack, Shane Oliver, Ian, Banno and Matt had us laughing for about an hour. Had a chat with Kerry Murphy about his IT job in the navy and organized a ride to Sydney for David with the Waiuku crowd. We left when the dancing began, around 10PM. | ![]() Leon - Tracy ![]() ![]() ![]() Shane ![]() |
2009 | M - Checked out ($165/night) of Albatross and went to Princess Alexandra where Tracy Neal showed us around. Super excellent place aside from all the floral scents. Actually perfect for pricing and care available. From there we drove through Ahuriri and on to to Marine Parade where we had our pictures taken with Pania of the Sea. Dropped David off at the cricket and went to Taradale to discuss financials for Riversdale RV with Diane Fairley. Napier library and I looked at local and area newspapers. Picked up David at 5PM and headed back home. Gail's right shoulder hurting (too many pool laps yesterday?) so David took over and got us to Taupo. Home at 11PM having driven through heavy downpours from Hamilton to Bombay. | ![]() |
2011 | W - Checked out Battle Zone (Richard Moore) and son) above dairy where I bought a Tongue Twister. | ![]() |
2018 | F - Clayton and Ellie came at 3PM and we got stuck straight into Azul. I easily won both games. Had a meal and then played Formula D (I won when Clayton crashed out rolling the blue). Had brumbleberry pie for dessert.
