1967 | Stopped for photo at Continental Divide. Got home from North Star lake around 7PM. Shaved my beard down to a gotee. see photos
1972 | We walked down to the river. Played ping pong until lunch. A lot of tourists in the place. I sat outside watching baby Joanna (an American) play baseball.
1974 | Called at 2:20PM to say that Gail was in the maternity home [ed. - she had taken a cab and her waters broke on the way, making her very embarrassed]. Simon drove me over after school. Gail was nervous. Pains were coming about every two minutes. They thought the delivery would be around midnight, so I planned to go with Simon for supper at his place and come back. But everything began happening around 6:15PM and I stayed. I was in the delivery room "helping" Gail. Tevita Antonio was born at 6:59PM; weight 3120g. Simon brought me home at 9PM after a cuppa at their place. | 1st photo Cards.
1975 | 4.5 earthquake (about 100 miles west in SD) felt in Dawson at 10AM - thought David had fallen from crib. Drove around Monte until we found the courthouse where Gail got an application for a Head Start job. Onto Cities and got to mom's at 2PM. Don, the paperhanger was there. Mom had toys and clothes for David's birthday and sleeping bags for our anniversary. Gave Bob an oversized plastic golf club. Drove to Towns and met Helen Towne who ate with us. Steve and Becky's apt in Richfield where we split two games of 500. | Bob
1976 | Mariasouccés visited in afternoon. Aldersons and Rhani came at 7PM, Sanders (8PM) came for Te's birthday. Trish taught Te to say "2" with a swing of his arm and now he does it all the time. Breezes stopped by with a sea-plane. Had his train engine cake with a Waihihere Resiling Sylvaner. Sanders left at 11PM and Aldies stayed until midnight to watch Grunt Machine which featured Rolling Stones. |

1977 | Te gifts: Emergency truck from Grandma Eva which he played with all day. Plow, tricycle, gumboots and candy from us. Card from Bob Fisher.
1978 | Su - Aldersons (puzzles) and Sanders (Peter Pan book) over in the evening for Te's birthday party. Doug ate the caboose and Te ate the engine. We planted a dwarf tangelo tree for him. |

1979 | M - Asked Te to turn the radio on and I was waiting with camera to get his expression when he uncovered the trike and saw all his gifts. The trike was under a sheet and he walked right past it and we had to encourage him to look around. Meanwhile Renee was squealing with joy and removing the sheet. We had to explain that the trike was his. He loved the Raw Power (plastic gizmo put on the handle bar - twist grip to make a motorcycle noise) so much that he didn't want to open his other gifts. But Ne sure wanted to do so. He had his party at 11:30AM with Bronwyn, Malcolm, Lia, Tania, Kelly, Timmy, Vernon and Renee. As each child arrived they gave him a gift and he thought it was just marvelous. Dominoes, balsa airplane that he loves (but Renee keeps ruining), big plastic race car that he likes to push around and a couple wooden puzzles. It was a mass gorging of food off table in back yard without any talking. Three games of pin the tail on the donkey, but in my turn I pinned it onto a lemon. Finally came the dump truck cake and more eating. Trish gave Te a dominoes set. |

1980 | W - Up at 6:30AM because David was up so I took a photo of him and his gifts and went back to bed for an hour. He got a Willy Water Bug sprinkler, Mork doll and helicopter from mom, a pin-the-ears-on Snoopy game from Aldies. We gave him a inflatable-speedboat, skateboard, Winnie the Pooh record, camping mess kit and little stuff (photo with cards). Second set of interviews at StPaul Cos. Two hours with Dick Hansen, who told me about the training course and asked a lot of questions. He queried my reading Playboy when I listed my reading as "catholic", so I had to explain to him what the word meant without a captial "C". Then over an hour with Tom Gag who heads the CAPS project. We were alike in many respects and got on well. At one point I stopped him to say that listening to him sounded as if listening to myself. He then told me that he had written in his notes: "This is me"! I even showed him Ian's bogus referal and he asked if he could make a copy. 30 minutes with Marsha Oudshoudt of Personnel. Went to Farrells for David's birthday. Kids played a few video games and a honky-tonk piano. Big surprize when a big bass drum was beat and they made David stand up on the bench while a ice crean sundae was brought out and everyone in the place sang "Happy Birthday". I had sarsaparilla and discovered that it is root beer. Home for birthday cake and we played the Snoopy game and Mia version, too. Photos. |

1981 | Th - When I got up Te was all dressed up in sports jacket and tie waiting, ready for his gifts. Ne and I tried to bake a cake in her toy oven, but burnt them and ended up with vanilla wafers. Mom came at noon and gave him a Star Wars bulletin board, an Erector set and a cake. John and Diane over for a party - they gave him a bubble maker and the Operation game. Went to Burger King where they didn't want to treat us as a "party" group and bad service to boot. But we did get a BK hat for Te. Home for cake. Mom left at 2:15PM. Family party and him his gifts. We built a crane After supper we went to Tanner's Lake for tennis and basketball. Dad called. |
| |
1982 | F - We let David open the fish pole from Dad, then Gail brought the kids to Tanner's lake to try it out.
1987 | Lunch at Fisherman's Table by MCC - very expensive but good service (not many customers - only open for 3 weeks). David had his first adult meal, having graduated from kiddies'. Bowled at Papatoetoe Super Strike where David beat Gail 87-81, Ne had a new high of 57. |

1988 | OZ trip: Canberra. Go to Trip Report
1989 | AA out to jump start the car. Stopped at the Glades Road House (outside of Rotorua) for breakfast. Picked up doughnuts at Ngaruawahia. Sanders stopped in with anniversary and birthday gifts and we shared a bottle of Italian white.
1991 | Drove to Morere Hot Springs (calcic-sodic muriated waters - seawater trapped under paparock 20 billion years ago) where we all went for a stroll on Nikau Pools walkway. David and I did the 2hr Mangakawa Track - ½ hour along stream then ½ hour straight up (video). Had a break for lunch, then double-timed the last hour as it began to rain. Long soak in the hot pool in the middle of the bush. Back to Gisborne where we wandered the town. A friendly souvenir shop owner told us all the things to do and see. Pizza Hut for David's birthday meal. Back at the Colonial Motel he opened his cards and gifts (Pt 1 and Pt 2). No cake, so I put a candle into a banana. |
| |
1995 | Went to MCC for bowling: I had 154 and 134 to win both games. Sizzler's for a meal with Kathy and Mike. They came back for coffee and cake.
1997 | W - Day 2 of our 3 month journey around the world. See 1997 Trip Photo Journal.
2002 | Shranko's to watch All-Star game with Bob. Torii Hunter made one of his normal plays, stealing a homer from Barry Bonds. Chat with Gail who had a good flight back to NZ and has plenty of weeds to keep her busy.
2004 | Gail and I left Marcia's and stopped at Opoutere but no one there, so then we drove to Tairua to check it out, only wandering through Manaia gallery and not finding any of Steph's work. We ran into the now infamous lo-o-ong lines to get across single-lane Kopu bridge on the Firth of Thames.
2009 | Th - Gail and I to Manukau and The Bog Irish Bar for lunch. | Bog
2013 | T - Kwang Chow followed by gifts and Lord of the Rings.
2022 | Sa - I shot over to the hospital to arrive before Gail was transferred to C Ward. Got her phone organized for Wi-Fi and set up easy access to Hotmail.
